Finally, you are able to plan a trip via Apple Maps in Carplay and navigate to EV chargers when a charge is required. You don't need to exit Carplay to find charging opportunities with the PCM navigation. The only thing you need to do is update your Porsche iOS app.

While it's not Google Maps, and doesn't have the crowd-sourcing of Waze, and they both have their own issues, Apple Maps has gotten orders of magnitude better in the last few years. A different beast from what it used to be.

As an Apple Maps user, I’m glad they’ve finally integrated with Apple’s EV route planning. I’d requested this as an improvement in the review I left for the app; glad to see it’s made it. I much prefer the route guidance and UI of Apple Maps in CarPlay over Google Maps or the native Porsche maps.

Seems to require an app update, as well as the latest iOS update (16.4.1).

Apple Maps UI, nav and turn by turn are far superior to Google Maps now. Don't take my word for it though, try it. Google Maps has the odd advantage on some POI information but honestly they both have issues there.

Apple Maps usage is actually very high, if you have not tried in the last few years I'd encourage you to try it again. It's a breath of fresh air after the cluttered shambles that is Google Maps these days.

This is really interesting news. I've always viewed Apple Maps as something to be uninstalled and avoided -- like the Internet Explorer of the GPS mapping world. Maybe it's time to give it another look.

Apple Maps are much better, but the crowdsourcing of information that Waze offers is unrivaled, at least in the Northeast of the US. I cannot imagine switching away from Waze unless I lived in an area with too few Waze users. I’m not sure why I thought the integration with CarPlay would also work with Waze, but I guess it will not. Too bad.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. I could never give up Waze as my default navigation system. Combining those Waze police alerts with high-end radar/laser detection is unparalleled.

Not to mention the helpful, but alarming, "Object on road ahead."

That is exactly right. If enough people use Waze, it is so very accurate and reliable.

I will say that I got a ticket in the Midwest once because I had become too confident and didn’t realize nobody was using Waze so nobody had reported the police location

Waze is truly handy for real-time traffic, road closures, crashes, cops, etc., but in my opinion, it's too cluttered to use as a navigation tool. It is great for what's determining what's going around you as you drive though.
Not sure I follow. All the things you list are exactly why I use it as the primary navigation tool. Could the display be improved? Absolutely, but it’s not materially worse than the others. I just don’t like that it is not integrated into HUD on Taycan

Come on friends, we're 15 posts into this thread, and more posts on two other threads for this topic, and no one has explored whether this update causes Apple Maps in CarPlay to pre-heat the battery on the way to a charging station. Am I the only person who wants to know?!? Why would we use the updated Apple Maps on the way to charge if it doesn't pre-heat the battery?
