I bypassed the extra fancy glass and instead plan to get film installed. We'll see if I regret it.

I'm sure the car will be excellent with any glass. Even the base glass does have UV protection as well.

Correct, the thermal glass is double pane.
Whoa that’s impressive never heard of that on Cars. Must be much quieter.
I have it optioned on mine.

there is discussion another threads that it may affect your ability to use radar detectors by the way. Just so you know.

It highly depends on tires used so this test is pretty much useless.
I, for instance, have Pirelli P-Zero Elect tires on mine (factory mounted).
That "Elect" says it all.
It's a tire especially designed for high performance EV's and it's designed with noise reduction in mind.
Would love to see a test about those...

You make an excellent point. A test showing the same vehicle with different sets of tires would add to the discussion. It's still good to see the data on what the different cars end up doing 'from the factory'.

I will say that I am pretty sure the Porsche purposefully allows some of the front motor drive noise into the car. It is a the modern version of “hearing” the engine and I actually like it. Not the fake electronic one mind you. That is adding a couple of dB to the ambient noise level, but I don’t think I’d want a “super quiet” sports car. For the feeling of noise isolation nothing beats the Audi approach, the Teslas are quiet because of the electronics, but you hear every rattle and imperfection in the car, so psychologically it feels “cheap.” The Audi’s feel and sound like a tank, specially when you close a door. That sound is something.

Good point but I want to hear the motor(s), not the road or wind noise.

I don’t hear much wind noise in the Taycan, the only car that has less air flow noise is the i8. I hear the tires a little bit, but I am used to hearing even more aggressive tire noise from stickier tires. Right now I have all season performance tires (how it came). I am sure if I switch to full on summer performance I’ll hear more tire noise. You can select tires that are quieter but you will most likely lose a bit of grip.
