Right. Any one local to Southampton with a charging cable????? Really fed up with the amount of public chargers in the uk that don’t work, or work then go red, or stop charging after a few minutes. Stopped at 5 stations on way from Essex to Southampton. Now need to get to Somerset and am sitting in Asda car park next to a charging station. But no cable!!! Ahhhh. Porsche assist (aka the AA), have quoted 4 hours to send a recovery truck.

Ps, yes I should of bought my cable with me. I had a full charge. But have done 450 miles and just assumed (foolishly) that I could get a charge somewhere on the m3/m25 etc!!!!

I can't bring a cable across the channel but in any case: Fingers crossed for a resolution, best of luck!

Try DC chargers. They are always tethered. In the UK most AC chargers require a Type 2 cable. But your road tripping so DC is faster at charging that AC.

Look for DC with CCS connection. In Scotland all the DC chargers I’ve been at have both CCS and Chademo, which does not fit.

Glad you got it sorted.

Were the chargers you found to be problematic all Ecotricity ones (just guessing)? Did you use Zap Map app to check availability / functioning of desired chargers?

Just trying to see if there are any tips or pointers you can share with us, thanks?

Always have a type 2 cable with you so you can top up from the slow chargers which don't have a cable. Note this cable will fit into the small storage compartment below the trunk floor, so it doesn't actually affect anything to keep it there at all times.

For a true roadtrip I would bring the mobile charger with me as well which includes a regular electricity plug and three phase plug. But on every trip I recommend having the type 2 cable in the car at least.

Yep. You guessed it. Ecotricity didn’t work at fleet services, lakeside Thurrock, clacker lane.

Yep. Type 2 lead in my car now. I had one for the xc90 hybrid we have and also a lighter 3 point plug lead - so will carry both now. Other advice is if you find a decent dc charger when out. Use it to give you the miles you need for that trip. Plus a few more. My problem was I used the first dc charger to get me to my destination due to time constraints. Thinking I would just do the same there to get back. Obviously that plan did not work!!
