Luke,
Can you tell me if the brake lights come on when ACC detects a vehicle ahead slowing down and slows the Taycan down? Enjoying the car so far.

Thanks,

Rob
I'm not Luke but yes, the brake lights come on whenever ACC slows the car.

For all EVs there is a certain threshold of regen when the brake lights come on. Basically when the regen accomplishes what would require an ICE car to brake, your brake lights will light up.

Hi Luke, I couldn’t really understand that so I googled and found this. https://www.google.com/amp/s/electr...s-pay-for-the-optional-150-kw-dc-charger/amp/

Most DC charge points are 50/400 so the standard is fine. If there was a 150/400, not many if any of them, then you need the upgrade. Charging at 50/400 or 50/800 not any of them is the same.
You are right on Gogs, I searched in PlugShare for stations over 70kW that were not EA and there are seriously so few in the USA there is little point of the option in this country IMHO. I did not spec it in my configuration.

More option follows: 1000V is like the the VHS standard, Beta is leaving us in years to come. The 50kw stations will still exist and some will still be installed in locations with power limits.

I've had a similar experience. On Tuesday I went into my local dealership with the interest of test driving the car and learning more about it. By the end of the conversation I asked him 'how soon could I have a 4S delivered' and he said that they 'have sold all their 2020 allocation'. Which I wasn't really surprised about.

However, 5 years prior, my dad had a similar issue when buying his Panamera and our dealer managed to trade a build slot of one of their cars (not necessarily a Panamera) with another branch for a Panamera that my dad wanted. Success! Everyone got what they wanted.

I therefore asked my branch manager whether he could do something similar for me on my 4S and he said that all branches have pretty much sold all their allocations.

So, I returned home a bit bummed out after he told me that I would have to sign a waiver that I am aware I could incur a potential '10% Brexit Import Charge' if I wanted to proceed with a 2021 build as that's when these fees are likely to be introduced.

I ended up using the 'local branch finder' tool on the website and emailed all four of my closest Porsche dealerships with my spec and situation. All replied within 6 hours.

Stockport - Had build slots available for Nov with Dec delivery.
Cheshire - Had build slots for Dec delivery.
Preston - Had no 2020 allocations left.
Wilmslow - Had no 2020 allocations left.

I informed my Bolton branch manager that I would most likely reluctantly have to deal with the Stockport branch to 1) receive an earlier delivery time slot and 2) avoid the possible 10% brexit import charges.

Within an hour, he rang me back and told me that he's agreed a build slot trade with the Stockport branch as they needed a car that the Bolton branch still have allocation for. In return the Bolton branch got the Taycan 4S build slot that I wanted. An hour later I paid the requested £3000 deposit and the allocation was transferred in, my Bolton branch manager inputted my spec and confirmed a Nov build/early Dec delivery time frame!

On Wednesday I'm going for the test drive and I'm sure I'll confirm my spec immediately thereafter.

It's definitely worth reaching out to the branches around you. Some will also compete with incentives, such as free car mats etc.
Very helpful information. Thank you!

To both Gogs and ron, this was really helpful to know and read so thanks to you both. This was originally spec’d on my order thinking that “more higher is lots better” but knowing that there are so few stations in the US that would utilize it makes a big difference and helps save that money for other options.

@LukeManning On the 4S, is there a way to paint the bottom bumper To the same the colour of the car like the Turbo does? Or is it a different bumper type?

Does the US Taycan come with a jack? I see some tools but didn't dig further in the front compartment.

Update: my dealer looked up PET for the Taycan spare: it is an inflatable 20" kind of like what I have for my Cayenne. No jack though.

Thanks for taking all of these questions Luke, I hope it pays off with more sales for you.

Can you tell me if the night vision displays the road in front of you if there are no animals or people? If so, does it provide much visual support in the rain or snowy conditions for colder weather climates.

Thank you for all of your time.

@LukeManning being ex-Tesla, whats the general thoughts on Taycans connectivity issues with the Porsche servers? I collected my 4S on friday, and have not been able to get the car to login to myporsche id account. Online and phone app work and my VIN was registered, but when I go to login the login button is not 'lit'. Dealer says its Porsche, Porsche say they dont know...round and round I go.

Is it a server thing or a car thing...no one seems to be able to give me an answer.

Hi Luke,

So I have made a deposit to get in a waiting list about a month ago for a 2021 Taycan Turbo S. But being the noob I am, I just recently found out that I’m not officially on the allocation list because of reasons that I somewhat understand but not fully. So Basically I’m in queue to get an official allocation which they cannot guarantee the date :( .

So my question is, if I’m trying to find the best way to get a guaranteed allocation for 2021 Turbo S, is it better that I call around different dealers until I find an open allocation? Or by leave deposits at a bunch of dealers hoping that one has the lucky winning lottery ticket :) ?

Thanks in advance for your advice
Hey there! Sorry for the late replies. Busy with end of month.

I would recommend only calling dealerships within your state. I really wouldn't recommend calling dealerships across the country to try and secure a 2021 allocation on any Porsche - let alone a Turbo S Taycan.

There are a couple of reasons for this:

1. Porsche has already slashed our 2021 allocations by around 20-30% from what they were expected to be. Dealerships across the country will be trying their hardest to just keep a decent amount of vehicles in inventory to sell to potential clients.

2. Depending on the size of the dealership, they may only receive anywhere from 1-4 Taycan Turbo S allocations per year. So as you can imagine, these are probably allocations that would go to clients that have purchased numerous cars from said dealership.

3. Whenever I get a call from an out of state client looking to order a vehicle, it usually is for one of 2 reasons. 1. They are looking for a crazy concession that no dealership in the area would accept on an order vehicle i.e. something like 10% off a 992 911. or 2. They aren't able to obtain an allocation at a local dealership.

I feel for the people that aren't able to obtain an allocation at their local dealership for whatever reason, but I have to say the best method of trying to get your hands on these specialty cars is to try to find a dealership in your state that is reputable - and more importantly find a good salesman who is there to represent your interests, not just try and sell you a car and be done. Calling around and putting deposits down at 20 different dealerships doesn't really show you're trying to build any type of relationship with the dealership, and in all honesty there are probably very few dealerships in the country who are going to try to work hard to get you an allocation - especially if they know you have 20x deposits all over the place.

Would be happy to discuss more about this with you. Don't want you to get your hopes down, it is totally possible to secure an allocation and I think you can do it! Just spend some time researching your states dealerships and maybe try to find a newer one with a reputable salesman that can help you out!

Rob,

Great question! Yes the brake lights come on anytime the vehicle is slowing down with ACC activated.

Glad to hear you're enjoying the car!

Oh that’s great news then. Will save me £350+ in applying the privacy glass option if it’s roughly the same level of darkness?

Tbh I think the small difference is range and speeds at those mph doesn’t warrant that level of price increase. I’ll probably have the same conversation with the dealer when I come to finalise the build and see if he can convince me
Correct, I'd just save yourself the money and see if the dealership will tint the glass for you - UNLESS you want the Noise Insulation part of the glass. The glass is actually thicker with the Thermally and Noise Insulated glass, so it is a tad bit quieter in the cabin - although the Taycan is already so quiet I can barely notice.

Really would recommend the larger Performance Battery Plus. Promise it's probably one of the best options you'll be able to add onto the car.

Correct, no Jack but you do have an can of inflatable fix a flat in the front.

Unfortunately no. Not even when you option the Sport Design Package does it do this. Only available on Turbo and Turbo S.

That being said, I do recommend my clients that order a 4S to option the Sport Design Side Skirts on if you're looking for a little bit more color on the car.

Personally, I don't mind the plastic front versus the painted or Carbon Fiber options on the other cars. It's just down so low that you really don't notice it that much.
