Porsche Taycan Can I remove the fake vent inserts from Turbo rear bumper? 455704beb715dd37728cec64283b62dc

anyone knows if i can remove the parts marked with a red circle in the picture?
I think It would look more natural without them, or better if they were redesigned like 911 Turbo side vents.

No idea why they decided to ruin the back with these fake vents with plastic inserts. I am interested to see, as you are, if it is possible to remove them, but then you have to deal with water entering the space. This design element is everywhere, functional or not, but I understand there is an aerodynamic benefit for having it on the Taycan that probably contributes a negligible amount, but it is 150% ugly.

Aerodynamics. Makes the butt wider, and reduces drag coefficient a bit, thus slightly more efficient, thus slightly longer range.

I think the fact that it's cheap black plastic is what makes is look so bad. Replace it with chinese carbon fiber replacements, or even paint it shiny black, and it would look better.,

My point is that it is a very ugly execution of the vent. Other brands have it but make it look good and sporty. Top of my head, Mazda like this looks better:

Looks even worse when you see it side by side and up close.

I wonder if you could just buy a used pre-facelift rear bumper off of eBay and replace… not that expensive.

Stying trim panels that are really just pointless ballast on an already heavy car are annoying.
I would check if the j1 rear panel fits and use that if it does.

Nope.
It's pure aesthetics.
The butt isn't wider either.
Wider would be bad for streamline cuz frontal area increases.

If you were an aerodynamic engineer you would know these inserts would create more detached and turbulent airflow so definitely not better for efficiency.
But then again, in a windtunnel, it would be unnoticeable and therefore useless.

I'm pretty sure these can be removed.
But what are you going to put back in?

Porsche in wind tunnel presentation of taycan are attributing 11% of the increased range to aerodynamics and alike. While most of it is probably the new wheels, I highly suspect that actual aerodynamic engineers, and not me, actively testing & optimizing the car in a wind tunnel to increase it's range, would not make changes to reduce the range of the car.

So I will trust the actual aerodynamic engineers on this topic, in that these inserts do help with the range of the car.
And as a person that has seen them side by side, it does change the back profile of the car to be slightly wider AFTER the hips/shoulder/arch wheels/whatever of the car.

That's exactly what aesthetics do.

@f1eng can you light your vision on this matter?

Ignoring any other thing i said? Typical of you. Maybe try to read the whole post before replying to it

Well according to Porsche one of the major contributors of drag in the taycan j1.1 is the back of the car, the base wake, which is much bigger at the corners of the back, coincidently where they made this change in j1.2.
So seeing as how they bothered to spend R&D money on this, and implement it, i would assume it's not that unnoticeable.

Another thing to add, this is a 2025 model, so likely under warranty. At least in Swiss, any modifications to the body or components of the car void your warranty, so before replacing the rear panel with a j1 panel, i would check if it would void your warranty

So why doesn't Porsche add this to the other models then but only to Turbo/Turbo S?
Maybe to make m look more "beefier" as in "aestheticly enhanced" like all more powerfull Porsches?
