Has anyone ordered the above or similar from Amazon? Link here:

https://a.co/d/9UyCqeZ

I was actually looking to buy the Tesla supercharger adaptor from Porsche but they notified me it was available and it was still out of stock.

So I started looking for alternatives. At times, I come across free level 2 chargers and it would be convenient to use them, especially since the cost of charging nowadays as almost as much as the cost of gas.

At around $50, this was very tempting. Anyone else use this or something similar? Of course, I don’t want to cheap out with a substandard product on a premium car just to save a buck!

Thanks in advance.

Why risk an unknown brand? For level 2 charging Lectron, A2Z or Tesla Tap are more expensive but known quality products. My Tesla Tap gets almost daily use with my Tesla Wall Charger. Looks and fits like new after almost 3 years.

Only reason is that it costs less than half of the known brands (50 vs 120 for lectron and 299 for the tesla tap) and has higher/equivalent ratings.

Usually, not always but usually, you get what you pay for. TeslaTap is probably overpriced now days. I don't remember there being many quality options when I bought my adapter. My Lectron NACS to CCS1 adapter seems to be a quality product and if I had to do it over now I'd save the money and pick the Lectron level 2 adapter.

Agree, I was curious if anyone on here had good experience with something other than Lectron or Tesla Tap. This item has 110 reviews and 4.6* on Amazon with specifically one Porsche Cayenne Hybrid user. As you say, it has been a few years now since Tesla Tap and Lectron so it's possible they have first mover pricign advantage. Tesla Tap in particular is over double the price of lectron now.

They sell Lectron at Home Depot in store.
Thanks for the heads up. Close enough in price to the Amazon price. Unfortunately not in stock though so no advantage over Amazon in this case.

I have used a lectron adapter with my 2016 Tesla level 2 wall charger since 2020 and have had no issues with multiple vehicles ( lucid, BMW, Porsche). I highly recommend the Brand. The risk of fire or vehicle damage with a lesser unknown brand (although remote) would be a concern for me. Note - the fact that it’s sold on amazon is no guarantee of anything.

Be sure to check the Tesla app for the chargers' compatibility at your local spot. There are a lot of Tesla locations that are not yet on their "adapter" network and they will not connect. Use the map on their app to verify.

Thanks. I think you’re referring to the supercharger network. I might buy a CCS adaptor as well for the flexibility but for now, this is just the J1772 level 2 version.

you are correct - but there are some Tesla chargers that are "Tesla only" mode - these are rare but possible…but yeah a Tesla Tap or equivalent is a great tool to have in the frunk for any J-1772 owner…

basically for the next 10+ years North America will have a "split" personality charging network - there will be commercial/public stations that are either CCS1/J-1772 _OR_ NACS

so regardless of what type of EV you own adapters are beneficial if you want access to all the possible chargers you might encounter…

these threads are useful

https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/threads/faq-why-does-the-teslatap-work.6817/
https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/t...se-vehicle-connectors-how-does-it-work.12207/
https://www.macanevowners.com/forum/threads/faq-dont-overthink-the-nacs-native-port-transition…because-it-doesnt-matter.16867/

also a NACS fast charging adapter is not just for Supercharger Access - all the major EV charging networks have announced they will be adding/replacing CCS1 fast charging cords with NACS cords - there could be some point in the near future you drive up to an EA/ChargePoint/EVGo 800V charging site and it has an NACS cord…not a CCS1 charging cord…

and there also will be a growing number of NACS based L1/L2 charging stations as EV vendors start shipping vehicles with native NACS ports more people and business will install NACS based AC-L2 charging stations…

a NACS adapter (both L2 an CCS) is eventually not just for access to "Tesla" charging stations - it's going to be for access to a growing number of stations Tesla or otherwise…

this is like the USB-A to USB-C transition - still a lot of USB-A devices, but USB-C is the path forward and it's use is growing and USB-A will always been there, but it's not the growth trend…

my $0.02 YMMV

I've been researching this issue lately I highly recommend this adapter.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DVS3SBLK?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title

I have used lectron with my Tesla Wall Charger at home for the past 2 years. I usually program the car so it charges when we are sleeping and the rates are lower. A month ago I had to charge mid-day and noticed tesla charger blinking red which means it is overheated. I realized lectron can hold a ~10kw charge only for ~30-40 minutes and overheats, and thankfully charger sensors catch that and reduce current by 50%. The reason i did not catch this earlier is because by the time I go to my car in the morning, charge would be completed several hours ago plug would have cooled off. Knowing that I've been sleeping over a consistently overheating charger for the past 2 years freaked me out to be honest. Turns out it is a very common issue, lectron is a cheap made in china adapter. Researching for an alternative tesla tap comes up but I refused to pay $300 for an adapter.

Then I ran into this Schumacher electric adapter. It is only $88 on amazon, it is small and straight out of the box you can feel how "dense" it feels compared to lectron. It does not overheat at all. It is not some chinese crap, looks like this company has been in business for decades making back-up batteries etc.

Not because i can't afford it but in principal i am not paying "an adapter" that type of money.

Thanks! I just ordered this. A number of people recommending lectron but it has an average rating with many having the same complaint as you (overheating and rate drop).

I did end up ordering this. It feels pretty solid and well made and came with a nice carrying case. I was able to use it last week to charge at a hotel for about 8 hours. No issues, charging worked perfectly and when I retrieved the vehicle, the casing of the adaptor wasn’t warm or anything.
