Normally Taycans fly low and hang tight to the ground. Mine has broken all records while reaching over 20 miles or 32kms. over sea level.

FWIW, 32767 is 2^32-1 or hex 0xFFFFFFFF or -1 in two's compliment. This tells the software engineer in me that altitude is stored and displayed as a 32 bit unsigned integer, but somewhere else if somehow altitude is not available or there is an error in calculating it, the signed integer value -1 is returned as an error value (quite common in software engineering).

Or maybe you really are 1m below sea level. Or maybe your GPS calculated altitude really is 1m below sea level...

Are you sure an oxygen mask didn't drop down from your visor? I think that''s standard equipment when reaching those altitudes in the Taycan. ?

Anyone else ? Getting dizzy ... higher than a U2 spy plane with no oxygen bottle !

I had exactly the same in the summer parked in the port of Nice, ie at sea level.

I had that once on a 991.2 Targa 4S about two years ago and then slowly descended back to my actual altitude...

I was parked near my home at about 700m above sea level. I assumed the satellite signals to calculate altitude and location were not all acquired yet. In a few seconds it went back to normal !
Another possibility is the existence of an official armoured vehicle or building which have powerful frequency inhibitors. These were designed and very common when terrorists used to detonate bombs by remote control using receivers or mobile phones. When driving near one of these, the car also advises that the key is not found.

This brings up a good question: Is there actually a point in placing an “altimeter” in an EV? Variation in oxygen levels can of course effect the performance of ICE vehicles, but I suspect that Taycan batteries/motors are not effected at all by minor changes in O2 levels at or near the Earth’s surface. Im not an engineer, just an EV driver wandering if I am missing something obvious to those in the know.

I was thinking 2’s complement rollover as well - though it would be a 16-bit signed int, not 32. :)

Also (going very deep here), the GPS altitude value is based on “height above the WGS84 reference ellipsoid ” (HAE) which, depending on where you are on the planet, can differ from geoid-derived altitude which is expressed as “altitude above Mean Sea Level (MSL)”. Whoooosh..... Straight over my head.....lost me at FWIW. 🤣

For a moment I thought your cat might have walked across the keyboard...... but then I saw all the likes and I realised that this means something to those members (most) who are more technologically advanced than me.

I assumed that after 50,000 years, modern homo sapiens peaked with the births in 1964 and then suddenly went into decline ......but I just realised this may not now be the case.

I'm still impressed that you can write BOOBIES upside down on a Texet calculator. 😁

Actually, 32767 is 2^15-1

👍 And not -1 in 2’s comp either, which is 0xffff instead of 0x7fff.
…unless it’s a signed 15-bit integer…
But more likely math overflow w/o rollover on a signed 16-bit integer.

Are you sure this dosn't relate to the Turbo Encabulator?
