Tom Voelk has just uploaded part 8 in his series on buying and owning a used Taycan: "13 months in: winter driving, rebalancing, depreciation, etc."

I always enjoy his calm style and nice to see a more balanced view from an actual owner who loves the Taycan :)

Here are the previous episodes:

1. How to buy:

2. Delivery:

3. Drive to seattle:

4. Drive to seattle 2:

5. Accessories:

6. 6 months in:

7. 9 months in:

Whoa, 800V! Nicely done putting them all tother like that. You more ambitious than me! Just coming up for air after a VEY busy week. Hope you are all enjoying the series. I have not seriously gotten into the SoH, I need to do that. It's my understanding that many Taycans drop pretty quickly to 85-90 and then hover there forever. Something to check out.

@262X40, been a long time fan of yours. Your videos are very informative — and fun to watch.

Coincidentlly just watch your new 13 months old Taycan ownership video last night.
Glad you're enjoying them. I'm surprised how popular this series is. Just trying to get information out.

Another great update from Tom Voelk @262X40 on his Taycan. I am not sure what his handle is but I wanted to suggest a couple of things and ask about how his car is optioned.

- Replace orange markers with clear
- Video shows charging at Tesla at only about 58kW, so wonder if he has the 150kW option
- He got the OBD but I could not tell what is his SoH reading as predicted range is on the low side
- Enable Matrix beam as now I have done it and it is a game changer

Hey, can you point me to activating the matrix headlights. That's something that I'd love to do. Thanks! I've not dived in to SoH. It's my understanding that it drops pretty quickly to 80-90% and just stays there for years. I've just been too swamped to do any research.

One thing I’ve noticed too, used Taycan prices seem to be sticky during the past few months. Comparable cars to mine from the same model year are still selling for around the same price I bought mine for, 9 months later.
I'm finding that prices have risen. I can't find anything remotely like mine for less than $80K. And that's for 2021s so it's a year older.

Grocery store sushi, made fresh on location.
Well, we weren't at a gas station being in an EV. We actually watched it being made. at the grocery store we were at.

@262X40 - thanks for another great video. I loved your approach and found it very interesting to hear how you handled range during your trip to Whistler.

However, I disagree with your take on whether to get an extended warranty or not. The replacement cost of individual items on your Taycan that can, and eventually will, wear out can be extra extraordinarily high. Call it the Porsche tax if you will.

Examples —
Bad Inverter - $12,842 installed
Bad headlight - $4,000-$6,500 installed
We'll see how brave I feel in a year. But so far this has been rock solid.

Hint, I wasn't at a gas station...
Please accept my apologies, as you've now commented more than once on the sushi comment :)
I didn't mean any mean spirit by it.

If anything, I was impressed by your bravery :)

Agreed!
(And especially in contrast to a certain EV car reviewer...)

And looked like it had been made fresh on site (not that prepackaged refrigerated version sold in some supermarkets)!

Kind of amusing how in the prior video he praises the public charging infrastructure as being so well built-out now but also sensibly cautions to check an intended route in advance to see if it really is so well build-out yet.
The flip side of that is how I've found that new stations are now being opened without much fanfare. I noticed that the new MB station had opened in St J VT only when I happened to looking at another route for someone else, I learned about the new Ionna in Brattleboro VT only via a notification in my BMW app, and the Rivian stations in Brattleboro VT and West Lebanon NH allowed universal access with zero publicity.

My main criticism though of the latest video is that I wanted to see more skiing footage in Whistler!
I did like the shoutout to Timmy's since I have a friend who loves that place.
(In New England, we instead have Dunkins pretty much everywhere.)

Ironic that he cites excessive eating as a side effect of EV ownership, since I've experienced the exact opposite.
Previously I used to buy bagels and ice cream when stopping for gas.
Now, on the rare occasions I need to charge in public, the MB and Ionna stations are so fast, and the extra kWh I need is to minimal for getting between Western Mass and Mt Washington, that by the time I've quickly visited an adjacent restroom, I already have a higher SoC than necessary.
I do believe that the infrastructure for road tripping is pretty well built out. But not everywhere. I think you'd agree that's it's smart to make sure the route someone might cover is well supported before buying an expensive vehicle. Yes, sensible advice. But I had my pick of the litter on the Whistler trip, my brother Mike was suprized how easy and plentiful the choices were. There's loads of video to make a more detailed video and I might do that.

As for skiing video, I only did a couple hours of cross country. I was mostly there to be with my brothers. The reason I left early was to get surgery on my extremely painful hip.

Yipes -- hope the surgery went well and that you'll be able to ski more next season!
