    EV Roadwarrior adapters “kit”

@Litigator no additional equipment is needed "in the car" to charge on the road at a fast charger (Electrify America, Chargepoint, EVGO, Blink, etc) - you pull up - plug in and the car starts charging. the same is true for any business that has a dedicated EV charger (J-1772) - you pull up -...

Apple Car Key - Any word on Taycan support?

I doubt it’s a software update - car has to have NFC (short distance wireless transmitter/receiver) hardware added at various contact points on the car so that it can talk to your phone. getting software support from automotvie supply chains is hard enough, but software + hardware changes = 2-3...

    DC vs. AC Charging

let the battery management software do it's thing and don't worry about it - it's pretty clear that unless Porsche really screwed up (unlikely) the battery will last much longer than you'll own the car - and the warranty is generous - it's the job of the Battery Management Software to not...

Porsche Mobile Charger (Not Mobile Charger Connect) - When Will it be Available?

Tesla - I have a couple - EVSE's really aren't that complex and the Tesla UMC has never let me down - it's a very high quality device.

Setting up for charging in garage

40 amp break = 32 amp charge rate just FYI…not the full 40 amps due to continuous load rating of breaker/wire.

Dangerous to take a nap while recharging and staying in car?

sleeping in the EV while charging should present very little risk - I'd be more concerned about crossing the street to find another place to hang out…

    EV Roadwarrior adapters “kit”

LOL - I know - but there are plenty of super high quality J-1772 EV chargers that are 1/3rd the cost of the Porsche offering - clipper creek makes bullet proof stuff for example.

    EV Roadwarrior adapters “kit”

@Toby Pennycuff thanks for the update - given cost and the fact that there is nothing special about a porsche charger - I’d have to say any of the standard J-1772 chargers are probably a good choice for a 2nd EV charger.

    14-50 v 14-30

+1 for @wmras - NEMA 6-50 might "fit" in the existing conduit - and a NEMA 14-50 to NEMA 6-50 adapter would carry no risk - as you are just converting one 50 amp plug type to another 50 amp plug type…kudos that's an excellent idea different between NEMA 14-50 vs. 6-50 is 3 wires vs 4 wires...

    14-50 v 14-30

+1 for @Miwa comments - they are spot on and excellent advice. I’d recommend obtaining the Porsche 14-30 supply cable from Porsche - when that supply cable is attached the Porsche charger (EVSE) it will automatically set the proper charge rate at a maximum of 24 amps (30 amp breakers need an...

Anyone do a track day with their Taycan?

@ron_b thanks for the update - list is updated - one of the great things is we are in that phase of new EV charging locations coming online reasonably frequently - so we all need to stay flexible and consult the latest data sources.

    EV Roadwarrior adapters “kit”

the "other" common RV hookup you may find in RV parks is the NEMA TT-30R - this plug shape is a 120 volt 30 amp hookup (quite a bit less powerful than a NEMA 14-40) 120 volts * 30 amps = 3,600 watts or 3.6 kW like all plug types an EVSE can only use 80% of the rated load - so it's a 24 amp...

    EV Roadwarrior adapters “kit”

here is a diagram of a NEMA L14-30R connector - it's electrically identical to your electric dryer NEMA 14-30R - but the shape is different so it needs the corresponding NEMA L 14-30P to plug in - but both types of connections have 4 wires they are connecting you'll find these types of...

    EV Roadwarrior adapters “kit”

for those of you playing along at home - here is a picture of a NEMA 14-50R - the is the "receptacle" your electrician will install in your garage - and if you find a hotel or campground with RV hook ups you're likely to find one of these receptacles. NEMA 14-50 is 240 volts @ 50 amps -...
