Notified of PTC failure in the app?

I got this message in the app. Is this the PTC heater again? I haven’t driven it much in the past two weeks due to bad weather. They sure didn’t monitor it like this the first time. interestingly I went to the app because I got this ad in my Facebook feed. This is my dealer but I’m not sure...

ARB7 OTA install success after false start, and now WRW1 procedure

So I finally got the ARB7 OTA update notice on the PCM display. This appears after driving and then parking and turning off the vehicle, but not opening the door. You can leave and lock the vehicle and walk away if you are not ready to install. If you do proceed, the instructions are confusing...

new reminder email from PCNA for battery monitoring

PCNA says the in-car monitor SW is still not available and reminds me to either disable privacy mode (which it is) or bring my car into the dealer to be checked (see attached letter). They are proud to announce in all caps that if I don't want to disable privacy mode, this at-dealer monitoring...

Interview with Al Cocconi at the Petersen Museum - history of modern EVs

If you are interested in the history of modern EVs, Al Cocconi made a rare appearance at the Petersen Museum recently, where they have a T-zero now.

Does the J1.2 have a Start Battery Heating feature?

I just learned that the ID4 has manual start battery preconditioning for charging. J1.2 also? Here’s hoping they will bring that to the OG Taycan.

Has anyone replaced the front lip (front splitter) without removing the bumper cover?

Sometimes the parking sensors pick those concrete parking blocks and sometimes not. This time I went too far and damaged the bottom of the front splitter, sometimes called the front lip or front spoiler (#3 in the diagram). Seems like that piece should be designed to be easy to replace -- it...

got the ARB0 brake hose recall and WPK0 PSM reprogram done

Called to schedule, and my Massachusetts dealer said they book a week out to have time for parts to arrive. They got the hoses six days later and did the work. They report doing the ARB0 and WPK0. The hoses are longer and the inboard mount is different. I had no complaints with the brakes before...

Why doesn't regen damage the battery?

I read that Taycans can regen as much as 290kW. If the battery isn't preconditioned and warm, why is this power level not damaging it?

Polished base aero rims are tolerable.

For various reasons I prefer 19" wheels and tires. Even the look of high profile tires is underrated (e.g., Dino 246 GT). The base aero rims have been offered in various finishes. I think there were both matte and polished silver over black. These polished ones with black inlay I think look the...

    APB6 power cable, "recall incomplete"?

I checked my VIN at https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls and it is showing the APB6 cable as a vehicle recall, not an equipment recall, and showing "Recall Incomplete" in red. Doesn't that prevent affected vehicles from changing hands?

My First Experience with Magic Dock

I tried the 12 new magic docks near Lynnfield, MA USA. The magic dock adapter looks very much like the adapters Tesla is providing to Ford and Rivian (of course you can't separate it from the NACS). I found the mechanical tolerances to be questionable because the first ones I tried did not click...

    Yet another “lost plug-n-charge” issue.

I am nearing my subscription renewal into the third year on 3/24. The car has been to the dealer a couple of times on other matters and I discovered plug-n-charge has stopped working. I checked my payment option and I verified I can charge at EA free with the Porsche charging app. I tried...

Yet another fuse tap dashcam install - VIOFO A119 V3

I installed a VIOFO A119 V3 dashcam via the VIOFO HK3 Hardwire Kit. The Viofo is a lower end dash cam, but I have them in all our cars and they last for years with no issue. I connected the switched and unswitched wires together so it operates only when the car is on. I followed other posts and...

Does the Webasto heat the battery?

When I plug into a DC charger without preconditioning is it the Webasto that takes the battery from 70 to 90F in 20 minutes?

    Help reverse this curse.

In six months and as many thousand miles, I've come to really love my modestly-optioned RWD. But in that time, I've had about as many incidents as I had in my Mercedes in the past 10 years: 1. A few months in I got a screw in a rear tire while on a long trip when I went to an EA station next to...

OK to jack up one corner at a time?

I read where a Taycan owner had his tire shop jack both rears or both fronts simultaneously so as to not torque the chassis/battery. Anyone have opinions as to whether that's necessary, good practice, or not needed?

three meanings of "precondition" and a question

There are three meanings of "precondition" 1) precondition the cabin temperature for the human, 2) warm up the battery on a cold day to provide good power for driving, and 3) warm up the battery a lot to get ready for fast charging. So my question is in regards to the second case. I read here...
