For what it's worth on my J1.2 CT I've found that (observed) range maps non-linearly to indicated battery percentage. Going 40 miles starting at 90% might drop it to 82%, while going 40 miles at 50% might drop it to 35%. (Numbers are made up but they're generally in the right ballpark.)

In principle if somebody had a newer cell with a smaller/lower weight but a compatible charging curve (a big if, but bear with me), you could do a cell-for-cell replacement and end up with the same overall capacity but lower weight, which would probably translate to an overall increase in range.

Less of an issue for the J1.2 honestly. Different chemistry means that if the ambient temp is already in the 70s you’re pretty much good to go, and the Taycan kind of shrugs at the resulting ~150kW speed anyway. That’s been my experience at the Magic Dock station in Scotts Valley at least.
