Thanks again for the info. Did contact the solar provider and as you say for power to be maintained in event of power cut additional cabling and changeover switch required and cost of£600-£800 additional. I’m presuming this would be dependant on you having power in the batteries and during the...
Thanks, so if limited to 3.6kw this is what I can export per hour?
Just been looking at the Tesla PWs, and noticed they work in power cuts. Do normal inverters/ batteries work in power cuts so no loss of power as we tend to suffer from power cuts!
That’s brill, thanks and mostly makes sense! The 8.6kwh export is that per day? Is there any common themes on why capacity is limited? Whilst we live in a new ish build, it’s on mainly old protected land with fairly old looking overhead power cables?! The installer did say they can refuse export...
just on the inverter bit, googled what they do eg dc/ ac conversion. Why do you say you’d wished you’d pushed for a bigger unit. Was this the dno application restriction also?
Does you current inverter restrict how quickly you can charge the batteries then? Does the same apply to exporting that...
Also, your below comment,
“I’m on Octopus Intelligent. 7.5p import cheap rate and 15p export”
I shouldn’t have any problem getting this set up should I? Previously I was told they wouldn’t let you have this as basically your charging cheaper and exporting higher? Do they manage/ check/...
Again, brilliant info, much appreciated. I’ve had the DNO applied for. Why did they limit the inverter, and what does the smaller inverter mean to your system?
That’s really useful. So in essence during the winter 4 months I may see 4-5kw generated to use in the house, but could charge the batteries and 2 cars, heat the water over night all on the cheap OI window, so winter bill would be much better but still a chunk, maybe half now. Our heating on air...
Ah ok, not good on the winter generation. The quote suggests 6kw per day ? We are SW Facing with no shade on the solar side. This doesn’t sound realistic then?
I do think I would love the solar and would get into it though like you so this is good to know.
Ah ok got you, 132 years to pay back the air source pump. Ours was fitted as new build, but to be honest don’t find it very efficient hence your payback period!
Does your system charge the batteries up daily during winter days?
I do like the OVO power move events and was being credited £50 a...
As in you’ve got solar and batteries already installed? How can payback be 132 years?!
I have OVO currently and it’s great but now moving back to octopus OI as I want to charge the wife’s hybrid over night at same time. I also have one eye on the solar install with this decision so I can charge...
The house set by the way is all electric, air source heat pump with under floor heating throughout down stairs. Charging a taycan and missis has an Evoque hybrid that has a 13kw battery and currently uses battery ev only mode most days as it’s a small battery but just about covers her daily...
So found out on another thread you can have solar, batteries, export to grid and have an ev tariff so my interest has been resparked.
Interested to know if anyone has this set up and how it’s performing, and any regrets?
Are you all using Octopus intelligent and their outgoing 15p export...
Very confusing! The chap that came round sells and installs solar, has solar at home, has an ev and said you can’t combine these tariffs, if you have battery.
It does suggest on the site you can’t have octopus outgoing if you have batteries? ( not sure how they regulate this if you lie?)
I’ve been looking into solar/ batteries recently and was told by an installer you can’t have an ev tariff and export tariff combined! I take it you have? Can you share details? The reason they said not possible is basically what you are doing, storing at cheap rate and selling back higher!
If that’s the case that will mean OI will be 6p per unit more expensive than OVO on standard rate which is considerable! Might have to reconsider if so! ( and more expensive for ev rate and only 6 hours, where as on OVO I can charge anytime and a full battery at 7p!)
On OVO, no not that I’m aware of still 7p from April. The email was just on the standard element, presume 7p will remain the same.
OVO do seem good at communicating any price drop quickly and seem to go to the lowest end. Octopus seem to drag heels? reluctant to swop now without knowing what...
