  1. Is a cash purchase risky, given how technology will change?

Good point. No one really know what’ll happen, it’s all educated guesses.
  2. Is a cash purchase risky, given how technology will change?

I already have £50k at 2.5% but I think that’s the cheapest you’ll find for UK business - my bank are offering 7%! And the advantages of buying in a UK business are quite strong - 100% write off in the year 1, for a start.
  3. Is a cash purchase risky, given how technology will change?

Gotta say I like the simplicity of leasing. With Taycan, though, it’ll cost me £10k more over 4 years to lease. And I may well want to keep the car beyond 4 years, which make buying look more attractive, apart from tying up capital.
  4. Is a cash purchase risky, given how technology will change?

Agreed, I think they’ll stay attractive for some time. The gov incentives are definitely on our side right now and they’ll probably get worse in time.
  5. Is a cash purchase risky, given how technology will change?

Interesting thought. In the UK we’re looking at 1yr old cars with demo mileage selling for list or above. So a 2-yr hold makes some sense. Prices aren’t likely to drop that dramatically while the chip shortage continues, and Porsche have a flooded factory. I’ve been quoted April for delivery on...
  6. Is a cash purchase risky, given how technology will change?

2.24%, blimey, not sure you can get anything close at a UK bank. The dealers are offering 5.9%! My plan was to finance over 4 years but maybe keep it after that. I‘ve leased a few cars over 2 years, but before that bought used and keep 6-10 years.
  7. Is a cash purchase risky, given how technology will change?

With the UK banning the sale of ICE vehicles from 2030 (in theory) more and more people will be after electric. But because volumes have been low there’ll be a shortage of good used stock. Clearly that’ll make ordinary electric used cars popular, as they’re proving to be now. But what of...
  8. Is a cash purchase risky, given how technology will change?

When I say ‘cash’, I mean not dealer finance. I have a business loan at 2.5% plus cash that otherwise I‘d leave in the business for a rainy day. One friend said buy a rental property instead. Now that would make sense, but it wouldn’t be fun?
  9. Is a cash purchase risky, given how technology will change?

I was thinking of ordering my Taycan cash. But I just spoke to a dealer who recommended lease or PCP, instead. His argument is that the technology is likely to change, so in 4 years current Taycans will be out of date. Obviously if costs more to finance, but at least the finance company takes...
  10. To Taycan, or not Taycan? That is the question.

Nicely put! The quiet and composure on the motorway is uncanny, though it’s a little noiser than my current BMW 530e. That’s comparing back-to-back, mind. In day-to-day use, I’m sure it’s sublime.
  11. To Taycan, or not Taycan? That is the question.

Too right, let’s not get stereotyped? If I’d had the money before now, I’d have already had a Porsche.
  12. To Taycan, or not Taycan? That is the question.

    That’s my colour!
  13. To Taycan, or not Taycan? That is the question.

That’s a great strategy, love it, thanks!
  14. To Taycan, or not Taycan? That is the question.

T That’s reassuring, thanks. I know the non-Tesla charging is a bit hit and miss, but I won’t need to charge away from home that often. That’s partly why the Taycan is more attractive than the e-tron 55 - range that will do all my usual journeys on one charge.
  15. To Taycan, or not Taycan? That is the question.

Good point, the tax advantages are likely to reduce as more people go electric.
  16. To Taycan, or not Taycan? That is the question.

I think for real world driving it’ll be a lot more practical because of the way the torque is delivered. It was rare I had the kind of road I could open the S4 up and have some fun in relative safety.
  17. To Taycan, or not Taycan? That is the question.

I think it looks like peak car - luxury, build quality and fun, all in one package. I’m a little worried about range but most of our miles are around town, so we’ll charge once a week at most. Most long journeys are within 120 miles to family, where we’ll be able to charge, anyway. Once or twice...
  18. To Taycan, or not Taycan? That is the question.

Sounds like you’ve had some lovely cars to compare it with, so that’s a strong recommendation, I’d say!
  19. To Taycan, or not Taycan? That is the question.

It’s extraordinarily lovely, yet practical, isn’t it?
