Porsche is a car for people who live in the last century. This Taycan is the laughing stock of the Internet. They could have gotten away with this pricing 15 years ago, maybe 2006 model year. Today it shows what a deep recession Germany is in for. They really are painted into a corner.
Lol...
I got some more data. The Porsche PSM motor has a serious problem with the torque band. The only way they could ship it is with the 2 speed. Tesla has a far superior peak torque band from 1 RPM to 8000 RPM.
Is VW Group going to cancel this car? I can’t see them selling more than like 1500 of them. Americans just don’t buy that many $200k cars. We’re not rich enough as a country.
Which begs the question - why are any of us posting here? This car is vaporware. None of the press is even allowed to...
I think I’m just tired of being lied to by VW Group. Under $100k and range over 300 miles was promised. Elon may be late but he’s under budget and ahead of the professional car makers, in terms of specs ordinary car buyers want (price, range, battery longevity, 0-60).
For any one of the 30,000 people that didn’t refund their deposit today, what tow vehicle are you using to take the Taycan to the track? Also, what is the second track car that you’re taking with you when the Taycan runs of batteries in 20 laps and needs to be towed home?
Update: the 2 speed transmission is on the rear axle only.
I believe there is a trick dual motor EVs do where they can turn off one motor at high speed. On the Tesla, I believe the front wheels do the pulling on the highway. It would sort of make sense to me to use different fixed gear ratios...
LOL $150k base price. So a few millionaires in San Francisco will get it for $200k with ceramics and PTS. And then they’re tell their friends “it’s nice but my Roadster is way faster”. Sweet Tesla killer.
I instruct with the Audi group. Many participants end their track weekend early because of DSG failures, including some students I had. And it’s not the cheap cars either, many times it’s the high powered cars like RS5. And not tuned either, stock.
A transmission can goose EV performance...
A two speed transmission could be a game changer for an electric car, or it could be a warranty and reliability nightmare that takes your million mile car with a 500,000 mile battery and puts it in the shop every 50,000 miles, like a classic VW Group DSG.
First, we need to map out the gear...
It seems that the demo Taycan Turbo the journalists were driving has the 396mm+ carbon ceramic brakes. While fantastic for a racetrack, on the street an EV never even heats the brakes. Regeneration provides -0.2G of throttle lift stopping in regular mode, and -0.3G in sport mode.
Does the forum...
The Taycan will not be similar to any front engine gasoline car. It will ride like a long wheelbase 718/981. That’s how I feel my Model 3 is, having owned both cars. The nose is super light like any Porsche, and front visibility is amazing. So the turn-in is super crisp and Porsche...
Surely you understand the difference between a parts revision, and making all suppliers and engineering teams adhere to a 3 year waterfall on new features. That’s why every screen in every car EXCEPT Tesla feels like an ATM from 1999. When we’re talking about a car whose main feature is systems...
Oh, do you know a place where I can read some accurate information about Telsa? I couldn’t find any on the Internet. Would love it if you knew some good library books.
Anonymous forums are a place for very serious dissemination, like a government memo. I am sorry I breached the protocol! If you...
That was sort of my point. They could start Model S changes next year and ship before Porsche can get the first boat here.
Where are they getting the batteries from? That is the main constraint on global EV production. Tesla would build 600,000 cars this year if they had 600,000 batteries of...
Firstly, volunteers can’t work for free at an OHSA regulated factory. Security at Tesla is super tight. My car had final assembly in a temporary building in August 2018 and it has fewer defects than my new 2006 BMW or new 2016 Porsche (new 2010 Audi was flawless also).
To say the Model 3 is...
