I work for a US OEM and I used to lead the warranty administration function. I have also modded and/or re-coded every single vehicle I’ve owned.
Unfortunately, even a non-OEM coding change can be cause for denying the warranty, even if the link is as weak as tail light coding to transmission...
No, even that smaller change could be legitimate grounds for denying warranty. Changing one single bit will result in non-OEM software and is grounds for denying warranty, even if it doesn’t impact performance.
If Porsche decided to start enforcing this, any change to any ECU would be cause...
The surprising part of the NY Times article for me was that the GM OnStar data isn’t anonymized or aggregated - it’s customer-specific. It lists every single trip, speed limit violation, and sudden stop the driver made. It was tied to his identity through LexisNexis just like a credit report...
FYI, this post was referenced in a recent Jalopnik article. Well done OP!

I purchased a Porsche Wall Charger Connect from another forum member and installed it on Thursday. I submitted it for reimbursement today with all of the required documentation. Hopefully everything goes through!
Thanks for the update, especially on the video cable and impedance. Hopefully it's not a big deal to get the rear video feed working.
I'm debating between Viofo and the new Blackview (which now use the same improved Starvis 2 sensors as Viofo.) I'm guessing neither is a bad option so along as...
Thanks for the photo. There are definitely no pins in those plug holders.
The second wire with the yellow connector looks like a standard coax cable for sending analog video from a second camera.
If only it were that simple. It took me 12 tries and reading through 3 different forum threads to get “plug and charge” to work at an Electrify America charger.
Get the Homelink option. You don’t have to pair it with your gate controller if you decide not to use it.
If they can hack into your car to get it started, they probably know how to hack the gate.
If you’re really concerned about security, be sure to keep all of your keys in a faraday cage...
It would be great to have this flexibility for carrying extra kids. The problem is the seatbelts. I’d never consider a retrofit without a factory-certified seatbelt solution.
This is basically just a racing simulator setup in am EV. There is no real clutch. There are no real Manual gears.
It’s a gimmick for the sake of acting retro.
Don’t assume Porsche won’t start looking for firmware tampering. It’s relatively easy for them to detect module firmware changes based on checksums, using either PSTS2 or even in-car software. Just assume you will lose your warranty and then be pleasantly surprised if you don’t if doing this mod.
