Are EVs particularly prone to overthinking encouraged by the media, including both traditional and social media?

Ok, kept my winters on and, surprisingly, got my best efficiency from the past year (I.e., 2.7) Now, I didn’t have the roof box on and my average speed was way down because the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge near Baltimore has wrecked traffic between DC and Philadelphia. A trip that...

Are EVs particularly prone to overthinking encouraged by the media, including both traditional and social media?

So, I just learned something interesting: My summer and winter tires are in the same efficiency class, the winter tires perform better in the wet, and they are also quieter . . . at least based on the EU labels. I assume that the winters don't have as much dry grip (although I also assume they...

Explain to me what Torque-Vectoring is….

I empathize, and then I realize that, at least for the way I would use it, it would be a terrible car that is not suitable for purpose. I also think about getting a GT3 RS but, again, horrible for how I would use it. I think I would rather have a more comfortable, useable sports car for the...

Are EVs particularly prone to overthinking encouraged by the media, including both traditional and social media?

I think the jury is out on whether my winters or summers are better looking . . . they each have their charm, although the summers are probably better from an aero perspective apart from spinning in submarine mode.

Are EVs particularly prone to overthinking encouraged by the media, including both traditional and social media?

I'm going on a road trip this weekend, and I am trying to decide whether to swap out my winter tires and rims for my summer tires and rims. Temps for the weekend will vary from 65 to 45 F, so no need for winters but not so hot that it's a real issue. Changing them before the trip would be a...

Explain to me what Torque-Vectoring is….

Georgetown, my neighborhood, is a mix of Europe and the Americas with narrow cobblestone roads but they are straight . . .

    Submarine Taycan in flood waters

Well, turns out the rims are asymmetrical, but not directional, so you spin like a top with increasing velocity as you push the accelerator. Unfortunately, I had left my window slightly cracked: car is absolutely fine apart from some water I needed to dry from the upholstery, but I now have...

I have those wheels. Hold my beer . . .

Explain to me what Torque-Vectoring is….

It is not gimmicky in any sense of the word. It is an elegant engineering solution to an issue that affects all vehicles when cornering. It is not necessary by any means since the car will still turn without it. Unless you can compare the exact same models with identical options apart from it...

Thule Edge Wingbar or Porsche roofbars for CT4?

With respect to clearance issues, I push the box (I have the Porsche Performance box) as far as possible on the Thule bars, and then I just hit memory on the hatch so that it doesn't touch when open. It really doesn't hinder use of the hatch, although you do have to bend a bit more when the box...

    Depreciation of the 2025 Taycan

Depreciation of EVs can be pretty volatile. The value on my previous Tesla Model X changed by more than 20K in about one month twice during the period in which I was deciding whether to sell -- once increasing and, once decreasing. For EVs, shocks to gas prices and fluctuations in availability...

    Eclipse through VLC roof

I didn't see this year's, but I travelled to see the last one in the US a few years ago. Seeing it in totality is completely worth it and merits the time and money to travel (assuming you can afford to do so). The biggest surprise to me was the sudden temperature drop and pick up in winds. I...

Thule Edge Wingbar or Porsche roofbars for CT4?

Not only do the Thule bars sit more closely to the roof, but the manner in which they connect to the rails seems to be better than the attachment method for the Porsche bars. Also, I wrap my rails with black painter's tape before installing the bars, and remove the tape promptly upon removal of...

    Dynamic options

I considered those as well, but, surprisingly, they are actually heavier than the standard brakes, which pushed me over to the PCCBs.

    Dynamic options

My CT is the first Porsche for me with PCCBs. I have absolutely zero regrets. Significant unsprung weight reduction. Porsche says that a reduction of 1 lb. of unsprung weight is like removing 7 lbs of "sprung" (in the car) weight., which is supposed to improve ride quality, handling, and even...

    Taycan CT4 w/ 2021 vs 2022 Thule Wingbar Edge , Thule Vector M roofbox

I have the Porsche speed box, so I don't know how much that impacts this question. While range certainly decreases with speed, I have been most amazed about how little high speed seems to bend the efficiency curve for the Porsche box. The amount of range I lose (4-10%) seems fairly constant no...

So are 'new' Turbo S Taycans essentially unsalable at present?

I leased mine for exactly this reason. At the 4 year mark, I will either buy it from Porsche and sell in the private market, or hand the keys back depending upon the state of the market at that time . . . Used car markets can swing pretty dramatically in a short period of time. The value of...

Winter tire plan - Pacific Northwest

I went with these winters: Michelin Pilot Alpin 5 on 21" Porsche rims. Not Porsche approved but from a Porsche approved brand/line and on oem 21” rims. https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/threads/anybody-else-taking-advantage-of-the-exchange-rates-for-winter-rim-tire-sets.12796/ I’m big fan of...

Anyone else have a portable car lift?

Yes, I was going to do that and usually do that with racing floor jacks, but I wanted to get this past the safety lock. That was the height of the first lock. I treated the height as part of my workout for that day. The tires and rims are lighter than I had expected. Also, less tire wear than...
