Can any owners confirm what is the factory fitted 12V (Lithium Ion or LiFePO4 chemistry?) battery type/size please?

LOL. Are you trying to source them for us all? :)
Perverse interest….🤣

I picked up a new Fireblade SP a few weeks ago, fitted with a Lithium-Ion battery - but appears to be a bit of a special (size) - to suit Honda.

Wondered if Porsche had done similar, hence delay in them sourcing an alternative?

Answering my own thread 😂 how sad!

Definitely looks like a ‘special’ - from some various googling this morning…the 12v battery is a Lithium Phosphate type made in the Czech Republic by A123 Systems

From what I’ve read it’s a somewhat fancy beast, using a LIN bus connection to the car for telemetry and diagnostics. Therefore no simple/ready/cheap aftermarket drop-in replacement.

Original part looks like it was;

Porsche Part # 9J1915105EY (9J1-915-105-EY)

Think this has been superseded (possibly following earlier battery fails and recall) by:

Porsche Part # PAD915105 (PAD-915-105)

Parts prices look pretty insane too btw. A grand for a 12v battery!!:eek:

What an odd little thing (2 Ah) to start a 215 hp bike and run the numerous ancillaries...they may as well have taped some 9V alkaline cells together. No wait that would be heavier! 😂

Well it says it does that type of battery. I would email them specifically to ask - and keep the response in case it turns out that it doesn't.

Pro rata, the cost to replace the Honda battery is worse than the Porsche 12v battery…both ridiculous prices imho. 😎

Since Porsche Stuttgart is impossible to reach (for me anyway), have you tried emailing A123 and asking WTF is going on with the batteries? Maybe we can get an update. Since they are a smaller company perhaps it's easier.

Haha, I did too! Let’s see.

My guts tells me no. Different battery chemistry requires different chargers or else you're looking at a fire hazard. For the size and the amount of current it needs to pump out, it's probably a LiPO which is likely to be wired up from multiple cells. To charge those types of batteries properly, you need a data channel to make sure that all the cells are balanced.

Check RC car LiPO battery chargers to get an idea.
