That's what figure 7 is about. If you put rockets on it it's different than if you just have guns. Note in the lower right corner the shaded area meets the speed line at 1000 pounds. That's where you start bending teeth and that's where they would start bending teeth in their transmission. That's what limits it the the stated max speed so when you hear people saying hay this thing goes faster, they are hurting their transmission gears or bearings- or both. 700 shp will definitely go faster than 160. The car is transmission limited.

Did that do it, Don? Love to meet you sometime and will if I take a trip back to Maine where my grandparents were from. Banger

But putting weapons on it you increase drag/frontal area so worsen Cw.
By adding weight you need more power to lift the helicopter and has nothing to do with Cw.
Only when you're flying at speed.
I don't see how that relates to a car.
Only factors are frontal area and drag.
Above 70kph wind resistance becomes a huge factor so having a low Cw is very important as resistance multiplies exponentially (cuz of the v²) when increasing speed and therefore power consumption.
Porsche Taycan 2020 Taycan 4S Range Test Results in 381 Miles / 610 Km (Single Charge Non-Stop Driving) Screenshot_20200408-004059

F is force (resistance as work, like in kWh)
A is frontal area
Cw is drag coefficient
"p" is air density
v is speed.

Are you familiar with the number of Reynolds? (laminair and turbulent).

This is slow speed aero. Not fast enough for renoylds. Yes, then you know that as speed increases drag is squared as a function of frontal area. That's why there a min power speed same with a car fits into the same formula. See the v2. Same principal. Power crosses over the drag curve.

Cute! Correct. Just interesting to know what set the top speed- transmission, not the motor or battery. I'm pretty sure they are c level batteries capable of delivering 600 amps through the controller. This is a miricle machine. Just needs atomic batteries. Correct Don?

If this was sized for 200 plus the gears would weigh 3 times what they do. And if they were not planetary even more. Stress engineers on this sight will tell you exactly. This two speed is a game changer.

I don't think so.
The gears and bearings of Porsche are fine, don't worry, they know a thing or two about engineering.
I think the battery has its limits in sustaining constant power and cooling wouldn't be efficient enough to protect the battery from overheating.
That's why power in LC is 761hp in 2.5 seconds limited bursts.
Normal is 650hp which is enough to get to 269kph without any problem.

So you don't think it's transmission limited, Dee? Why would they assign a limit?

Cuz of the torque at LC.
But torque at LC is much higher than at topspeed.
So probably it'll go faster if you take off the limiter and apply that max torque at speed.
But, like I said before, you'll run into all kinds of overheating problems.

Look at Tesla, they can't match the Taycan cuz of that same problem.
Adding more motors (Plaid) doesn't solve that problem, it'll be even worse.
800V architecture does solve that but there are limits too. :)

Ok. Got it.
Safety Tip: “Don't bend gears.”

I have been chatting with The Autobahn Specialist and he seems quite real. I think we will see these numbers. He has a 1000km challenge in Taycan and did it in 9:15, that's 45min faster than anything Tesla Bjorn (Nyland) has.

edit - misunderstood post
Also he did 24hr run from Dresden to Lisbon 1759 miles - but that was in a Merc E220 CDI. ;)

He's doing less than 50 mph (80kph) for most of the test.
Yup. You'll definitely get great range driving that slowly.
(You'd also hold up traffic if the streets weren't empty)
Not exactly real world driving. Well, not MY real world.

Tesla once said that the sweet spot for maximum range in electric cars is between 25 and 30 miles per hour. So if he slowed down, he could have gotten even better range. And taken a nap.

I didn't buy a Taycan to do Hypermiling. That's much better suited to a Kia or a Prius.
I didn't buy a Panamera 4 E-Hybrid to do hypermiling, but I have found that in the 11 months of the year that I'm mostly using it to drive locallly (to work, to shop, to exercise, errands, etc.), I'm driving mostly in all-electric mode (25-mile all-electric range in summer), and my average speed is around 25-30 mph in those 11 months (according to my car's computer) -- just a fact of urban/suburban life. So for me, in considering buying a Taycan 4S, I really doubt that my average speeds will go up that much locally over my Panamera, and thus my city-driving range will be pretty darn good. I don't plan to buy a BEV to do as you did -- drive long distances -- because I don't care to deal with public charging at all (I'm not so adventurous as you are that way!); my charging will be almost all at home, or at Porsche dealerships occasionally or maybe at work. (Oh, and when I can open it up on the expressway, I do; it's just that in my daily life there's so much sitting in traffic.)

So, real-world driving in urban/suburban areas (which is where 99% of Taycan owners will be living, I'm pretty sure), a range around 280 miles for a Taycan 4S seems quite realistic for most of us -- and if I can get 380 miles, fabulous! For me, I'll never worry about running out of juice as long as I stay within 100-150 miles of home, which is my usual life when not flying off somewhere. The month of the year that I'm away from home, if I drive I'll take one of my vehicles with an ICE in it (likely PHEV).

With the Taycan 4S you can see expected ranges at speeds of 62 to 99mph. Spoiler he saw up to 317mi and 230mi at 81mph.
