Any experience in Europe ? I'm thinking of buying a used J1.2 4S ST next year, I drive to Liguria in Italy at least twice a year, TM3 LR, obviously route planning and charging is abviously a doddle.
I've noticed an improvement in the non Tesla charging in France, Italy is a bit of a mixed bag. My wife's ID.3 route planning is awful, a particular favourite is sending you in the opposite direction to charge when there are options in the direction of travel, hence bit concerned re VW group (and others) route planning capabilities. I guess ABRP and car play would solve that one.
I have a test drive on the 18th and would keep this car for a good 5 years which will probably see me into retirement at which point the Euro mileage will increase (I plan to watch all 3 grand tours in Italy, France and Spain, do Norway and the south of Italy and Spain), the improvements in efficiency and battery density are encouraging but the software side has maybe made less progress ?
Thanks in advance
We just returned from a 3 week road trip to the South of Italy (Puglia) with our brand new Turbo S. We put nearly 6000km on the clock.
We were pleasantly surprised by the charging infrastructure there. Basically all the gas stations along the major highways have 300kw chargers that all work well (300kw is sooo fasttt). We never had any issues there. These are very convenient, but quite expensive.
Also in small towns we found a good amount of slow chargers. And there are plenty of Ionity chargers scattered throughout the country. Check the Ionity app and you will see there are a lot.
We actually used this app the most of all charge planning options.
And Italy has a lot of hotels with Porsche Destination chargers. If you pick a hotel that has one of these, you can always charge during the night and leave the next morning with a full tank. They are usually a bit more upscale though.
I think we did a minimal amount of charging planning. The abundance of chargers makes it so that you don't really have to worry about where to get your next charge. For the times we drove deep into the countryside we made sure to charge up before leaving the highway/urban areas.
