3D Surround View vs Surround View

Can someone please explain the difference between 3D Surround View vs Surround View? Is one better than the other? Is there any reason to have both?

Whereas 3D Surround View Is included with “Remote ParkAssist incl. Lane Change Assist LCA, etc. See below for a more complete listing of what is included:

Remote-Controlled Parking:

• Remote-controlled parking allows the driver to enter and leave a parking space via smartphone. The system automatically detects parallel and perpendicular parking spaces and measures their size. If the parking space is a sufficient size, the driver can exit the vehicle then initiate the park maneuvers. At the end of the parking maneuver, the vehicle is automatically switched off and locked.

Active Parking Support:

• The system automatically detects parking spaces. Once the system has signaled that the parking space is a sufficient size, the driver can initiate and control the parking process while still in the vehicle. The system automatically takes over the steering as well as the forward and backward movement of the vehicle. The Active Parking Support is able to park the vehicle in parallel and perpendicular parking spaces.

Lane Change Assist (LCA):

• Alerts the driver to vehicles rapidly approaching from behind or vehicles travelling at the same speed in potential blind spots. The warning is emitted by lights in the exterior mirrors. The function is activated by the driver using the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) and is available from approximately 19+ mph. Below this speed range, Turn Assist (rear) also comes to the driver's aid by monitoring the area to the rear of the vehicle in turning situations.

3D Surround View:

• The 3D Surround View display allows the driver to influence the perspective displayed within the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) screen, resulting in a better all-round view. This allows for an enhanced view of your surroundings while parking.

Rear Cross Traffic Alert:

• The Rear Cross Traffic Alert uses the rear radar and, where system limitations allow, warns the driver when reversing slowly of oncoming traffic when the parking aid is activated. The system warns, for example, of critically approaching vehicles when leaving a perpendicular parking space. The information is provided in stages – visually on the PCM screen, audibly and, if necessary, with a jolt of the brakes.

Exit Warning:

• The exit warning warns of other vehicles approaching from behind when the door is opened. The system uses the LED lighting in the interior door handle as a warning.

Maneuvering Assist:

• Maneuvering assist can, where system limitations allow, prevent collisions through braking in tight and complex maneuvering situations while in reverse.

NOTE: “Remote ParkAssist incl. Lane Change Assist LCA” can also be obtained in the Technology Package, at least here in the US anyway.

The difference is whether you have an option to see the car as a 3D model which you can rotate to see in different angles. Surround View is limited to an overhead view as well as viewing the individual cameras.

However, 3D Surround View also removes the option to view the feed from the side cameras, as that is replaced by the 3D view.

Honestly, I find the 3D view utterly pointless. It looks cool, but as an actual parking assist feature it's practically useless. There are no guide lines or range indicators and the view is so distorted where it actually matters it's almost impossible to see where a nearby object begins.

If it wasn't for it being bundled with other actually useful features, I would have opted out from it without a doubt in my mind.

As @Perry said, 3D is kind of a gimmick. I never found it useful.

I find the 3D view feature is actually worse! With standard surround view, you have an options to do a top down curb view to make sure you dont curb your wheel.

The 3D version of this is executed so poorly I can't even tell where the curb is!
