I would imagine this is totally do-able via OTA updates. I think I read the same thing for Range Rover with the matrix LED lights. Either in marketing material or brochure that it can become active once regulations allow. Same for Audi lights, so figure Porsche and VAG being so tight, let's hope this is the case, and PDLS+ option well spent.

I was able to code adaptive headlights in my 2016 M4 using esys. Probably the best feature I ever had. Makes driving at night a huge blast.

A few weeks ago I was driving at night in an isolated portion of I-90 between Ellensburg and Yakima in Eastern Washington State where the East and West bound portions of the highway can be widely separated, I noticed that my Matrix headlights were automatically shifting between high beams and normal mode. Could the Matrix operation be activated via an OTA upgrade?

No. Full matrix capabilities span beyond auto high beam.
