I am looking at adding a tracker to my Taycan (Bought in 2022) for insurance purposes. I can't find that the PVTS is recognized by insurance companies so I can't use that.

Anyway the models that I have been looking at mostly need a 12 volt positive and negative that is on all the time as you would expect, but I am not sure where to get this from. Instruction videos show directly connecting to the battery. Which just doesn't seem like a good idea.

Any thoughts on where to tap in that might be fused but on all the time and where I can hide a smaller tracker?

Thanks for answer. Found out that it already had one, but will run out in 6 months and it's old tech (2G). So will see if I can find it and swap it out.

Hmm that's odd. Are you sure?

When signed up PVTS will provide a certificate for your insurance company. Find it hard to believe they won't accept this to be honest.

There is no need for anything other than PVTS.

$25 AirTag - change the battery once a year?

I can't see that PVTS is even an option as most insurance companies in Sweden want a device that meets the standards of Stöldskyddsföreningen (SSF) and I have found no information that PVTS will be accepted, just that all certified by SSF devices are. It is a short list of devices that are certified. Besides PVTS subscription is 7 times the yearly price of getting a SSF certified device's subscription.

Apparently third party trackers (GSFleet.io Spotguard) are fitted to all Porsches sold in Sweden and they are certified by the SSF, and I can only assume that this is because they don't think PVTS meets the needs here - I will ask my Porsche dealer in a couple of weeks when I go there if this is the case.

Did you speak with Porsche - can't imagine they'd roll out a solution which has limited insurance coverage?

Note that the car has a standard immobiliser, is always on line and of top of this you can add PVTS+ which is a 24 / 365 monitoring service. In terms of rating I believe it to be Thatcham Cat V or higher.

Suspect someone somewhere is making something on the side here and forcing yet another standard.

As it happens, in UK my insurance company who insisted on a tracker (PVTS+ was compliant) no longer requests or mandates this!

No I haven’t. Like I said I will be there soon and will ask.

There seems to be lots of these standards bodies for all sorts of things. Thatcham is sort of the UK version of the SSF - no doubt they make something ( and it’s not even on the side) when testing an alarm system.

Interested in the response but PVTS+ is a global offering so I'd expect some homework was done to make it a viable option for people.

This is the cert download I mentioned:

Porsche Taycan Add a tracker where to tap 12V 1730118825654-td

Porsche Taycan Add a tracker where to tap 12V 1730118915508-x8

There is an S7 variant which adopts automatic driver recognition but not available on Porsche currently.

any pointers for the best place to actually place/stick the tracker so that it gets a decent enough signal? (and isn't obvious to a thief)

It’s not gonna last 10 years, as batteries lose capacity just by existing; but it will for sure go over 3-4 years

I might get one, as I change my AirTag battery every 9 months or so
I now have several deployed with date/time labels - so I'll be able to report in a few years how far we've gotten - :CWL:

Why not simply subscribe to PVTS?

Integrated into PCM from MY22/23 onwards. Integrated into My Porsche App. No need IMHO for any alternative.
