Had cause to try Android Auto a little today - was expecting a call via Whatsapp so thought I'd see if it would work. et voila, it does.

But why does Android Auto look like the interface was designed by 6yr olds in a Fisher Price design lab?

And why can't you view its maps or other functions in the driver display?

So close....

(Car Play is similarly afflicted IME).

I tried it once and haven't used it since.
Same on the wife's car.

I don't really see any added value for me over the cars own system.

Maybe speed cameras on Waze would be useful - but otherwise I don't really see what it brings to the party?

The need to take a WhatsApp call was what prompted me - though I didn't think to try the std setup for this.... Am assuming that wouldn't have worked. Might try it later.

Like you I don't really see any added value. Maybe it can search music on my phone better than the stock setup searches USB. May have to try that too, but the loss of integration with the drivers' display would probably irritate me more.

Voice control (searching etc) is 1000 times better with either AA or Csrplay...if that's a reason.

Carplay is becoming more embedded offering ability to control other car functions...if that's a reason.

At some point the integrations will be more complete but I would agree that both are non essential thankfully.

I'm not sure I understand why you couldn't take the WhatsApp call just by connecting the phone to Bluetooth? It would work the same of a normal call.

I use both (still not sure which one is better on the Porsche...on my previous 8 series Android Auto would work on the HUD while Apple Car Play only in the main screen).

My reasons are the Spotify app being much better and faster to navigate than the car one, Google Maps having speed camera and better traffic routing info and Google Search/Siri being better at taking voice commands.

The new Taycan should have the extended car play integration which looks great, I would have hoped they will give that to us too...but I doubt it

Only my assumption it wouldn't work 🙂

Do calls come in as they would from a phone if not in Android Auto??

Will test it later.

So it does :)

Worked quite well. Thanks for that.

Tried a bit of using Goggle Assistant for music on my device. That works OK too.

Thanks W1NGE. I was thinking i may be missing out on something game-changing not using AA.

Truth is I only listen to Internet radio in my car (a couple of friends dj on fringe music stations - which I can surprisingly get!).

And I seldom have Bluetooth on in the car. I don't like taking calls when I'm driving. Even on hands free, my driving concentration drops dramatically. So I very seldom use it.

Doubt it indeed. Remember how long it took for Porsche to give us Android users integration in their cars? It all dates back to the CEO stating that 90+ pct of Porsche owners are Apple users. Bah Humbug.

So 10% can get stuffed 🙂

(90+% being Apple users would need some serious empirical backup as it sounds like anecdotal bollocks to me).

He'd be better off getting better quality dev teams. Though iirc VAG fired them all didn't they?

Android auto has worked out well for me so far, but if I'm doing a road trip, I do all route planning through the my Porsche app due to the total lack of any sort of integration with android auto. For daily driving Waze on android auto is good enough as I charge at home over night.

I've transitioned to using voice commands for pretty much everything and it's snappy and works well (if you have a connection), but I really feel like they dropped the ball on the steering wheel controls. Specifically the lack of next/previous song buttons (yes I know there's a macro button, but it doesn't work for android auto, it just keeps trying to go to the previous song in the built-in audio player, also they desperately need to allow the button to react differently to press, double press, triple press, and long hold).

Features I expected to be integrated with android auto:

Charge aware route planning, so Waze doesn't send you up a creek without any battery.

Heads up directions: no direction arrows on the heads up display.

That next song works..

Also slight other gripe, where I park only has WiFi access, the car should fail over to WiFi if cellular service is not available. The my Porsche app constantly shows my car with a near dead battery and that it's unlocked because it can't contact the car for updates.

I only use AA on my car and rarely the default porsche one. I leave that for long trips only. I use the previous track button very frequently using the macro button on the steering wheel and it works fine. I use back instead of forward because I listen to podcasts and sometimes I don't understand something and jump back 10 seconds. It works as it should.

The other integrations would be great, especially batery soc information as it should be "easy" to do. Ideally, having AA information on the driver's display would be great, but I doubt they'll ever do it.

Hello,
I'm planning to buy a CT 4S second hand this year.
I just tested an ID4 (for my wife) and noticed that android auto now accepts multitouch for pinch zoom (on google maps at least)
Can someone confirm it's also working on the Taycan ?
It would be awesome.
Thanks !

You could use Android auto with ABRP and a OBD dongle to have live battery data in the route planner.

you can't pinch with Coyote.
I'll check later today with Waze and Google Maps
