I've been seeing the recent posts about broken heaters and been thankful I haven't had that problem....until today. The same day we are apposed to drop to low teen temperatures.

Typical no heat, no defroster and no preheat access from the app.

Called the dealer(s) and none of the 4 dealers close to me will even look at the car for another months soonest appointment is January 18th. Other dealers didn't say a date, but said middle of February.
This is completely unacceptable and I'm really not sure what to do. Mind you, those aren't dates to fix the car, simply to diagnose, so I can only assume it would be a month or so after that for parts arrival and fix.

I have a 5 month old baby and I cannot have a car with no heat in the winter. This leaves me with being unable to use my car with the family.

I really like this car. I've had a few small issues that I never even complained to the dealer about, but this may be a breaking point.

Porsche corporate was (at first) helpless and said there is nothing they can do with dealer scheduling.
I hated saying it, but I mentioned lemon/buyback of the car and their demeanor changed. The rep instantly said my concern will be escalated and I'll hear back in 3-5 days.

Unsure if it's even possible to lemon the car since technically the car isn't out of service for 30days, but it is a safety issue and It is being refused to be worked on. I feel this is a very grey area.

A lemon or buyback isn't even ideal as it would cause me to have to get a new loan, at currently higher interest rates than the 2.4% I currently have. Not to mention, car availability of what to replace it with.

I'm looking for people's opinions on this. Not necessarily regarding the lack of heat, but how to deal with a IMO immediately important problem that the dealer won't even diagnose.

Which dealers did you reach out to? Since you're in long island, I imagine Huntington, gold coast, Southside, Amityville? Try Manhattan and if you dare, Brooklyn (just opened up).

Huntington (Jan 18th) appt made online. This dealer typically doesn't honor online appointments for taycans. I expect a call stating their (only) taycan tech is backed up and need to reschedule. Dealer is also closed for today and the weekend.

Gold coast said mid February. I didn't get a specific date as that is unreasonable.

amityville/legend said end january. i didnt ask for a date after that since i have a standing appt for jan 18th.

i didnt call manhattan motorcars yet. The 2-3 hours roundtrip is not high on my list of things I want to do. Although, this is the purchasing dealer. Maybe I'll get more priority.

Couple of thoughts.

1. If a dealer can't or won't see you in a timely fashion, it's time to find a new dealer for service. I switched from my longtime dealer to another because of much faster service.

2. A lemon doesn't really sound like a great solution here. It would give you some "revenge" for your inconvenience, but it seems like you really do like the car aside from this. Since you mentioned a loan, maybe you can negotiate them making a payment or something to compensate for the loss of vehicle use.

I will say this heater problem seems to be going around and it's not limited just to Taycans.

I was able to obtain and confirm an appt, with a loaner, at manhattan motorcars (dealer purchased from) for Jan 14th.
Im still not happy as this gives me 3 weeks of driving an uncomfortable car, and an unknown amount of time for the repair.

And yes, I don't want to lemon the car. I really like it. I may ask porsche corporate if they can provide a loaner/rental for the next 3 weeks until I get the service loaner. And if repair is any significant time, ask them to cover the car payment from time of complaint until fixed.

first porsche, and im loving the car, but dissapointed with service from such a luxury brand for a 150k+ car.

Is the Porsche including the same support in US as here in Europe for breakdown cover. In Europe we have a break down cover with Porsche Assistance during the warranty period, which varies between countries 9 2 or 3 years normally). That can also be included in Extended warranty for all Porsche cars.

My heater failure was reported to Porsche Assistance, by advice from the service dept, and was towed to the nearest garage, due to the failure being considered a dangerous to drive. Windows misting up etc. Porsche Assistance will then also get priority at any workshop and the car is taken in directly. They also arrange for a loan car on the spot. ( In my case a non-Porsche ……).

Is the Porsche Service lacking this in the US?

When speaking to porsche corporate, I mentioned the lack of defroster being a hazard. Didn't phase the rep or change her stance.
The only thing that got her attention and more than an "I'm sorry" l, was the threat to lemon.

And yes, Porsche service is lacking. I could call roadside assistance and have it towed to the nearest dealer, but they won't look at it or provide a loaner until mid-end january.

Glad you got an appointment. I'm still waiting for the uPdate fix call from mmc. Lemon would mean the car had to been with the dealer for at least 30 days. I've only racked up two weeks so far.

+1
You may find dealers further away that will diagnose the problem and order parts faster. The dealer I use is 80 miles away. Also, if you can drop the car off asap and not require a loaner, you can often get much faster service. When my heater failed in early December, if I had required a loaner I would have had to wait a month. I was surprised and pleased that my dealer received a replacement heater a day after it was ordered.

I just finished this story of my own. On Dec 9th my heater failed and I sent the car to the dealership with Porsche Assistance. It stayed for 1-2 days until it got in for diagnose and they ordered the part.

At first they said it would take 2-3 weeks for the part to be delivered and another 2-3 days to be fitted. For me it wasn't really a bummer that I didn't had MY car, but I asked if they could give me a replacement and they refused it with all their heart. 1 1/2 weeks gone by, I started to get really angry because I didn't had any way of transportation and then I texted them again asking for a replacement. After a long and totally undiplomatic chat, they somehow got the part earlier, fitted it in no time and this evening my car was shipped back home.

All in all, if you want something to be done you need to be more ferm, otherwise they will think that is no big hurry and they will postpone as much as they want.

I'm questioning the reliability of my car too at this moment even tho I love it, but no support from them after 10 months old its disappointing and disgusting. After 4 years (warranty is out) they can do whatever they want, but in these 4 years I want full support from them IMO.

Good luck with your car!

Follow up

The car was unusable since the defroster wasn't working. Any trip longer than 5 minutes caused the glass to fog up.

Only way to clear the window was to put the "defroster" on full blast , which of course just blew outside air into the cabin, making it even colder, but made the glass clear for a couple minutes.

I dropped the car at my local dealership, without an appointment. They didn't want to take it, but I refused to leave with it. Said the soonest they'll get to look at it is sometime next week. As usual, their "taycan specialist" is overbooked.

I'm waiting on porsche corporate to return a call, as the lack of loaner and repair timeframe is unacceptable.
Ideally I think they should get me a rental until a loaner is available. And i also feel they should pay for a month of the loan, if the car is out of service for more than 30 days. Exception to this would be if they put me in a similar car. Giving me a base macan loaner and expecting me to also buy gas is not what I signed up for when purchasing my car.

When I had my audi(previous car), the dealer would call the local car rental company and get a rental. No reason why porsche can't do similar if out of loaners.
