Hello everyone!

Some fellow members asked me to create a "Ask a Taycan Dealer Anything" thread on the forum.

My name is Luke, and I am the Taycan Specialist/Sales Experience Manager at Porsche Grapevine in Grapevine, Texas (Dallas/Ft. Worth area). I have been to two separate Taycan training in Atlanta and Los Angeles. Before working at Porsche I worked at Tesla (in NYC and DFW) for almost 3 years.

Would love to help anyone I can with their Taycan ownership experience! I have communication with our service team here at the dealership, and Porsche Cars North America (PCNA) to help assist with any Taycan issues as best as I can. Also if you need help ordering, or are looking for an available car I can certainly help with that as well! ;)

So, feel free! Ask A Porsche Dealer Anything:

Do you have any "guesses" for when we might receive the MY21 US configurator and when we might see more info on the cross or sport Turismo variants?

Great question.

Currently, all dealers have access to the 21' Model Year Configurator through our Porsche Partner Portal (PPN).

I imagine the configurator will probably go live by Q4 of 2020 as that will be the time-frame Porsche is looking to fill the bulk of early 2021 allocations.

Really the only allocations we've received so far for 2021 builds are for Turbo and Turbo S allocations, not many 4S so not a huge need to have the configurator go live yet if I had to guess what Porsche was thinking.

As far as the Cross Turismo, I can only speculate they'll probably release the car alongside the new MY21' Panameras.... I think that would probably be the best time for them to do that as they're planning for a "virtual reveal" of the face-lifted Panamera.

Thanks @LukeManning ! You've now been more helpful than my dealer was throughout my entire buying process, so I might give you a call next time instead. :CWL:

One other question/ask. If you get your hands on samples of the new colors, would you mind posting photos here? There are a bunch of people eager to see them. Specifically Cherry, Ice Grey, and Neptune Blue.

Hi Luke, given that the service department is the #2 profit center (after F&I) in US dealerships, and given that Taycan scheduled maintenance is very light compared to ICE Porsches, how will you transform your business strategy for new profit and payroll targets? In the news today, McLaren announced plans to go all electric, so Porsche will soon have significant competition in the high performance EV space.

That's a huge concern for Porsche with the Taycan is how we continue to keep the awesome technicians in the back of house "fed" so to speak.

I think Porsche Technicians will be necessary for years to come. One reasons is a larger emphasis on the Porsche Classic Program where dealers are incentivized to have technicians trained in repair on classic Porsche's. As there will be more and more "classic" Porsche's coming into the market due to the fact that Porsche has always been making more and more vehicles, there will be a greater need for technicians trained in repair on older Porsche models.

Beyond that though, I think with the Taycan only needing to be serviced every 2 Years/20,000 miles Porsche will be relying on the larger software updates needing to be installed at the dealership. There is a 2 prong strategy to this. First, it gives the dealer an opportunity to get a client who otherwise wouldn't be back to the dealership for 2+ years back inside to look at some of our new offerings. Secondly, it allows us to pay technicians for work completed on a Taycan, for downloading the update to the car.

That being said, I think Porsche will increasingly have to move towards more Over the Air (OTA) software updates - which they've been doing at an increasing rate already. So it will be interesting to see how they continue to innovate and adapt our dealership teams as time moves forward.

I will say one thing, while working for Telsa I never noticed a lack of technicians - in fact I felt they had way more than we even have here at my dealership. Little issues with cars still arrive (interior trim, rattles, displays, etc.), even if they're all electric as they are after all very complex machines inside and out.

Of course! Every U.S. Porsche Dealership should have these in their design studio now.

I love all the new colors, but especially like Neptune Blue!

@LukeManning Oh my, the Neptune is stunning.. no wonder they're charging extra for it. Ice Grey seems a little plain for a pricey color but maybe it pops more in person/on the whole car.

If you have a wait list for an electric Macan Turbo, put me down and I'll buy it from you. ;)

Appreciate your kind offer! Should all 9J1-915 12 volt batteries be replaced with V04-015 batteries?

Thanks.

Luke, thanks for the detailed response; glad there's a bright future for the technicians. The thing that would definitely bring me back to the dealership ready to spend is the opportunity to buy significant hardware upgrades such as a new-tech battery pack or infotainment system upgrade that postpones vehicle obsolescence. On the other hand, those compete with new car sales. The answer is in style and performance updates, which compel people with perfectly good Porsches to buy new ones!

Yeah Neptune Blue is totally worth the extra $$$. Ice Grey is a complex color actually, tons of metaflake in it - that being said if I'm spending that much on a color I want it to really pop!

I'll keep you in mind for a Macan Turbo EV Allocation, whenever that might be!

Not sure about this. I will speak with my technicians and try to get back with you later today.
