Are they missing something, or am I?
I've been a Porsche owner since 1975, but the Tesla looks mighty nice for the money:

The Model S is a pinch faster and has a solid 20%-30% better range. The brakes and handling are .... not Porsche. They aren’t bad, but i wasn’t happy with them. The recent price reduction to toss in Ludicrous mode for free makes a big difference in the top end value. it’s an excellent car.

that said, I prefer the top model 3 performance trim. It’s lighter and handles better. It doesn’t have the same range or trunk space, fwiw. It’s even better than the model s at half the price.

I’m still getting the taycan for the real sports car handling and the exterior styling. Ymmv.
