I’m currently buying the taycan optioned in metallic black. The black color is a darker black. If I am getting the dealer to do the ceramic coating do I even need the metallic black?

Metallic is a very “different” looking black, have you seen both in person? Not sure what ceramic coating has todo with it…🤷‍♂️

I obsessed about the white vs metallic white , they are also very different , subtle but definitely different

I have seen both. Black is a more darker color than the metallic. The metallic has a flake of blue to it. The dealership mentioned that metallic paint cars are easier to clean. I’m tempted to go white as well but I have always had the black.
The white shows more of the defined lines but again I am not sure how it will look in a few years? I’m guessing it should be ok.

White is awesome. That was the Mission e and launch colour. Really accents the lines and black trim. Plus, it's cooler in summer and doesn't show the dirt as quickly as black.

No black is easier to clean…

I love standard black, not a fan of metallic black. Never looks as sharp as flat black.

Jet Back metallic does not have the same depth as Black. Presumably this is unavoidable - metallic paint will (by definition) reflect some light from the specs and must therefore reflect (rather than absorb) some light. Back - when it is perfectly clean - will absorb light until the angle gets to the critical angle, at which point all light is reflected - hence the huge contrast between the 'black' areas and the dazzling reflected light. So @Archimedes correctly notes that Jet black Metallic does not look as sharp as Black. There is a compensating benefit in terms of the perceived resilience of the metallic paint, because Black will show scratches and dirt more than Jet Black Metallic.

White is a different proposition: Carrara White Metallic (which I had on my 911) displays both the specular highlights of White as well as the depth associated with metallic paint. For reasons which are unclear to me, light colours highlight the lines of the Taycan very well - although there is no escaping the perceived bulk which light colours accentuate.

Overall, I'm very happy with Jet Black Metallic as a compromise. I may change my mind when The Australian summer starts!

i just assumed white would show more dirt. Did anyone choose these wheels. I decided to use the spending money on the mission e wheels and added the rear wheel steering.

As someone who owns a solid black Tesla, metallic black BMW, chalk Taycan, and white Jeep, I can tell you that the white stays cleanest, followed by chalk, then metallic black, then solid. The problem with solid black is that there are no flakes in it so you see every spec/scratch very easily. The solid black looks better and darker when the paint is perfect. Metallic doesn't look as good as solid, and still looks dirty after a few days due to dust, but I would never own another solid black car. That being said, Tesla has terrible paint so that may be why this is my experience. I am not sure how Porsche's solid/metallic black compares with tesla/bmw, but I am sure Porsche is better.

I would go with metallic black if you are considering black as I think it will look better in the long run, or a color like white/chalk if you want it to be MUCH easier to clean and stay cleaner for longer.
Even with a ceramic coating, any black car will look dirty right after it rains due to the minerals in rain water.

I have those wheels and rear axle steering (and the car is Jet Black Metallic). Very happy with the combination. If you go with the 21’ wheels then beware of potholes. My local tyre specialist mentioned that he had seen several pothole-related punctures on Tycans recently - all on 21’ wheels. (Low profile + heavy car = higher susceptibility.)

Personally I like metallic black better but this is a taste thing. The advantage is that the clear coat is easy to polish on metallic. A good paint correction will make it like new.

I have the 21inch wheels on the x5 currently and it freaks me out going through kerbs and potholes. Good point I’ll stick with metallic black. Currently both BMWs that I own are metallic sapphire black.

Thanks I guess I’m second guessing everything as car will shortly go into production. I’ll stick with metallic black as it is with my current two cars.

Ahh yes, I recall that phase: Hours and hours on the configurator… It’s all part of the fun!
