So

Charged yesterday at a 50kW charger. Up to 98%.

Made an uneventful trip to Spain and back. Today I was at 50% so went for lunch to another city. Arrived there with about 25%. Had lunch then went to a store. Left with about 13%.

This is when my ordeal started.

I knew there was a 100kw charger at a local supermarket but that charger had given me trouble a few months back with a cryptic message "no slac message from car". I decided to try it anyway. Maybe they had fixed it.

When I arrived, there was a tesla charging. It was already at 65% so I decided to wait. The tesla owner appeared when he had 95% charge and left. I plugged in my car and, of course, I got the Slac message again. I tried 5 or 6 times to no avail. Eventually I gave up and decided to go to a 50kw charger that was nearby.

When we arrived, a EOS had just started to charge. I was now at 10% charge so decided to find another charger. There was a 60kw charger a few km away so headed that way.

We arrived there at 9% SoC, charger was free so I plugged in my car. The charge started for about 5 seconds and the charger disconnected with "charger error". I found that really odd. Tried another 2 or 3 times, same error.

I gave up but since I only had 9% battery, I moved the car to a slow 11kw AC charger that was right next to it. I used the left port of call this time and the charge started. OK. At least this works I thought. Waited a bit but at 11kw it was taking ages. Wife suggested to try another charger. I agreed. We left with 12%.

Arrived at another charger at about 11%. This 50kw charger was from a known supermarket chain which I use quite often. It was free so I plugged in... It's just to get disconnected again after 5 seconds. Tried a few times. Nothing. Now I was getting worried. I decided to connect the slow plug (11kw AC) and nothing. Same error on both ports.

Wife was getting upset so I decided to try another charger a few km more away. It was mentioned as being only 30 kW DC but I had no choice.

We arrived there with 10%. Plugged it in just to get another charging error. I started to think about tows. Wife asked if I couldn't reset the car like she saw me once doing it (Spotify was acting up so I rebooted the pcm at the time). I said that I didn't think a pcm reboot had anything to do with charging but I rebooted it. Had nothing to lose anyway. As soon as the pcm booted, I plugged in and behold... It's it started to charge! Of course to add to my bad luck, the charger only started to output 18kW... Better then nothing. I waited an hour until I got to 35% which would be enough to get home.

Two hours later I arrived near home. I decided to try at my local 50kw charger which I use once or twice per week. Plugged in and... Error again.

Tried 5 times and the charge wouldn't start. Eventually used the AC plug which started (on the right side port) and walked home.

So... Either all odds decided to go against me and all chargers just went blank on me today OR something is wrong with the car.

I don't really know what else I could try before giving up and just dropping the car at the dealership. I can't depend on AC only.

Anyone had a similar experience?

Holy smokes! No, that has never happened to me before...knock on wood. But, if it had, my wife would have told me to drive straight to the nearest dealer and trade it in. She's already not fond of these charging sessions that I have to do, and it has been working ok thus far.

Exactly, if my wife was with me the whole time with this ordeal, she’d just tell me to replace it with another Tesla, with a much more reliable and robust charging network.

It does sound like there’s an issue with the car, as other cars have no issue charging.

Can't take it in before Monday.

Have it at 62% but the problem remains. I guess something broke.

Had 10k really nice km until this :(

Next time, don't question your wife's Taycan troubleshooting instructions....

Update:

A good night sleep and it's back at charging ??‍♂

Tested two 50kW chargers. No issue.

There really should be a real "power off" button that shuts down the entire system instead having to leave the car taking a nap.

Will monitor this closely in case it's a hardware failure.

I pulled the logs from the ecu. Most relevant data is:

Code:
HV converter 2 (29 bit)8114. HV converter 2 (29 bit)
DTCs: 1
And

Code:
C6. High-voltage battery charger (UDS)C6. High-voltage battery charger (UDS)
DTCs: 3
Suggesting something happened with the HV converter. Yesterday one charger was throwing DTC 10002

Other interesting lines aren't faults per se, rather notices (as explained in some shady porsche PDF I found) like

Code:

No idea what happened but it was VERY inconvenient and frustrating.

Glad it's working now at least but my faith has dropped 20 points. I really should pack a 10mm Key to be able to unplug the 12V if I find myself stranded in some dark alley far away from home and can't charge.

Was it wet when that happened? I got exactly similar incidence a couple of months back. Pouring rain, tried multiple DC chargers and immediately after the handshake the charging stopped in error. AC working fine.

Shop didn't find anything and has not happened ever since.

Glad your car is back in action. But which would be more reassuring:
  • the failure to charge problem was apparently intermittent/one-time glitch (which has no fix), or
  • it still won't charge and has to be diagnosed and (possibly) fixed by dealer?

Indeed. A complete failure would at least pin point the cause and lead to a definite resolution.

Then again, wouldn't I still doubt the replacement module like it has happen many times with the Heater?

Both situations suck to be honest.

Reminds me when 4 months ago the car on the highway suddently displayed "Chassis extremely low, visit workshop". After stopping and checking the car, nothing looked "low" and the message vanished. 7k km later it never re appeared.

Software ??‍♂

No, it wasn't raining at all. I think the ecu disabled the HV converter with my first attempt at charging at that 100kw charger that started to throw those SLAC messages. After that it only reset after the night sleep.

Wife now suggesting we should always pack tooth brushes and underwear when driving around. "We might need to sleep in the car for it to fix itself" ???

The Porsche tool kit should come with a 10mm socket as standard, though, I suspect the wrench included is a 10mm. I keep a small assortment of sockets, quarter inch wrench, flat head, and plastic trim remover in the car as a just in case.

It was more of a rant to be honest. I do think you're right and a 10mm socket is included. I also had my leatherman so that would have worked too. I really just was caught off guard and it didn't cross my mind to pull the battery for 5 min to see if it would fix itself. I might do it if it ever happens again though and I'm cool enough to actually do it. Maybe if I was alone I would have done it. I don't know. I just wanted to have the problem solved.

Remember: follow your wife's Taycan advice. It seems to work for your Taycan.
