Taycan might've had a better chance of winning if Porsche hadn't speced this with the most expensive and unaerodynamic wheel/tire/brake set.
Edit: In updated results in warmer temperatures C&D achieved 220 miles of range for the Taycan 4S with 21" Mission E wheels.

They also conducted the 4S range test in sub 40F weather and kept the HVAC set to 72F.

"During our test of the Taycan 4S, the outside temperature was 48 degrees Fahrenheit, and it dipped below 40 toward the end of the test. We noted that at the halfway point (approximately 100 miles), the indicated range began to decline more rapidly than it did on the first half of the trip."

"We run all our tests at a GPS-verified 75 mph on the same 200-mile out-and-back loop on Michigan's I-94 highway. Our consistent procedure includes a methodical fill-up process, following a specific route, using cruise control, and setting the climate control to the same temperature (72 degrees auto)."

Your link refers to a different test where the Taycan did 188 miles. In this test it did 220, and I assume that was at the same time as the Tesla.

Instead of range tests I wish these journalists would conduct road trip tests. Maybe a 300-500 mile out and back road trip along a route with similar charging infrastructure. This at least incorporates charging speed into the equation.

The Taycan's charging speed makes up for a bit less range. This has a much bigger impact on total road trip time. Bjorn is the only one doing something like this. He's about to show the results for the E-tron GT on his 1000km route. This will be interesting to compare against his Model S LR Raven results.

Even the E-tron SUV with much lower efficiency and range compared to the Model S is only 30 minutes slower over a 1000km road trip. Based on Bjorn's tests.

It looks like they updated the article. I'm pretty sure originally it showed the Taycan range with the 180 mile result. Thanks for pointing that out.

One more interesting observation from Bjorn is his range test of the Audi E-tron GT versus the Porsche Taycan 4S. The E-tron GT was equipped with 21" wheels and the 4S had the 19" wheels. The 4S has a range of 264 miles at 120km/hr and the E-tron GT went 235 miles at 120km/hr.

So it's reasonable to assume the 4S in the C&D test would have gone another 25-35 miles if equipped with 19" wheels like the Tesla. That would have dropped the range differential to 70 miles.

Even more interesting was TeslaBjörns trip to the Arctic circle. About 1000 km trip where the E-torn GT came out as the fastest car to do that trip yet. Due to a very fast charging speed. Faster than a Tesla Model3 . And tesla probably have a better charging network in Norway
