Also, you have two different wheel specs on these photos…does it have the 21’’ spider wheels?
I purchased aftermarket Vossen HF-1 , 21’s. I kept the original wheels.

it means the faster you drive the more kw you will use and have to charge more often. you have to choose between getting someplace a few minutes faster against how long you will need to charge
Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but... ICE are like this too. More fuel being used means more fueling required.

Kidding... somewhat.

I'm not sure what the big deal is anyway - doesn't this just mean you have to plug in a little more frequently? How is that such an inconvenience to the point where you'd rather sell the car?

Not trying to be inflammatory here, just opening up a discussion.

People switch To more efficient ICE cars all the time - sometimes because of gas prices but also because of inconvenience of filling up the tank…very situational but home chargers aren’t fast for mid-day “top offs” and public chargers aren’t always conveniently located. situational, for sure.

I’ve owned multiple Teslas and electric vehicles work for my use case (relatively short commutes totaling about 50 miles a day); however my friend is a real estate agent and would cut it very close on busy days.

In an ICE car, on average, it consumes 10% more fuel travelling at 70mph vs 60mph because of the increased air resistance travelling at higher velocity.

Those laws of physics won't be avoided in an EV, they will be compounded where more energy is needed to maintain the same speed.

It's not a big deal if you're just driving around town, and if you don't drive lot like a realtor during the day. Also, if you take a road trip, imagine you'd have to stop every 150 miles? I don't stop for gas until it's on empty in my ICE car, and that's between 350 and 400 miles.

KEEP THE CAR, you wont regret it
In UK petrol is now £8 a gallon and I charge at home at 7.5p kwH from April 1st
(1 more week at 5p per KwH!)
At 90mph thats 4p per mile
Petrol at 20mpg is 40p a mile
Just drive a bit slower, save the planet (and 1p a mile!)
The best bit is you get to spend longer in your Taycan
My Taycan is nicer inside than any room I use at home or work
Like an executive 1st class airport lounge
I like the 300mile challenge which I have done in my 4S
with 20 wheels in summer several times - Try it, its fun - 1p a mile!
60-65 mph
You cant go much faster on busy UK roads anyway without the massive stress
of knobs driving 18 inches from your bumper in the fast lane!
Cruise in Range mode which sets the suspension to gangsta low
so you look cool, no stress, set off earlier, no speeding tickets.
Plenty overtake me smiling and waving giving me the thumbs up.
I occasionally floor it
Just for fun!

Good responses all, it makes sense. I suppose this particular car with its range is not ideal for a person who does heavy driving in a day. If you use anything less than the fully battery a day, it really does not seem to be an issue since you'd just be plugging it in when you're home.

I would imagine even using a full battery everyday isn’t always ideal - that’s a lot of charge cycles and might be better with the ICE - unless lease or planning on a short-term ownership. I brought new, optioned it up with the intent of keeping. I tend to use my one of my ICE vehicles for longer drives.

I have a 16 mile round trip commute and Taycan is great for this :)

This is very very similar to audio amplifiers driving a speaker (speakers are essentially very simple motors).

Power input does not equal volume output on a linear scale.

3 decibels is the minimum change in volume that most people can detect.

To increase volume 3db, it takes double the wattage.

To double the volume, it takes 10 times the wattage.

Traveling at s constant speed >= 70 mph will obviously use more energy (battery or fuel). If most of your journeys are like this then clearly more frequent refueling is needed.

PB+ adds say 20 - 30 miles of range which isn't as much as you might imagine.

Depending on the climate / ambient temperature initial range before turning a wheel at 100% charge will be anything between 220 miles and 300 miles.

Not hard therefore to understand how the range can be impacted and that's before you factor in other loads such as use of AC and heating.

Understood, however, I have read that with Performance plus battery Taycan RWD provides ~300miles range.. assuming that is best case scenario, a 50% degradation to 150 mile range in highways is shocking to me.

The energy required for a trip is needed to
1. accelerate the car
2. overcome changes in elevation (may be positive or negative)
3. overcome rolling resistance
4. overcome air resistance

Of these overcoming air resistance generally requires by far the most energy and the requirement rises by the square of the velocity. This requirement can be reduced by streamlining.

Overcoming rolling resistance is the second largest requirement.

in addition, rain, snow on the pavement, headwinds can all have an impact on your range

This is shocking to me; I came from a Tesla Model 3 Performance (multiple Porsches before that) and I was _always_ charging that car- I was lucky to get maybe 120-150 miles on a charge, and the car got noticeably slower at about 40% battery. I NEVER have any range anxiety with my 2021 4S with A/C on auto (70) and driving in Performance Plus full-time. I charge to 80% daily and get about 185 real miles of range consistently.

300 miles in perfect ambient conditions and hyper-milling driving style.

Use the Taycan range calculator on the website to better understand the impact - I'm guessing you haven't done so already.

Remember also WLTP is not real world driving so ignore that as a metric to avoid disappointment.

Any EV would suffer the same range degradation.
