Is it correct that the 2021 model year Taycan 4S will get a 22 KW charger?

This is said by some dealers, in some countries the MY2021 configurator is already online, so check it out!
However, Porsche has never definitively answered this question. Many salesmans say it will come. So count on the taycan MY2021 to charge at 22kWh.

UK's Car Magazine says:
“By 2021 at the latest, peak charging power is set to increase from 250 to 350kW, which should – in combination with those latest 800-volt charge points – reduce charging time to a swift 14 minutes.”
So maybe the MY2021 supports 350kWh but I'm not sure if that's real.. Would be a nice addition, I mean charging in 14 minutes is crazy!

Your profile says USA. The 22 kW charge rate is probably never going to be available in the US because the type 1 chargers used here can't handle that load, being single-phase. Only the three-phase type 2 chargers used in Europe and Asia will be able to handle that amount of power.

Makes sense. Thank you.

In the UK there are some 22KW AC chargers but to be honest when in public places you want DC chargers. I really don’t know if 22KW public chargers I would use. But at my office it would be great for a quicker charge. But at 11KW is really good anyway.

Very unlikely indeed, 22kwh is 200 AMP on a single phase, which most homes in the US max at 200A service for the whole home..
In Europe it's not that likely to charge 22 kWh too, most homes do have 3-phase (Europe uses 230Volts) with 16Amps per circuit (so 230*16*3=11 kWh) - the whole home uses 25 Amps mostly. It's very uncommon to have a 32 Amps single circuit (230*32*3=22kWh).

I had a Tesla P85 with "dual chargers", which could take 80A, and I'm using that charger with the Taycan, via an adapter. 80A is about 20kW, and I have a whole-house energy monitor. When that thing was charging, the load absolutely dwarfed everything else in the house.

Interestingly, Tesla moved away from the 80A chargers, and no current cars can charge at 80A AC. Even the new HPWC is only 40A, because 80A is generally impractical and unnecessary.

I think the Taycan "Wallbox" may be 80A capable, perhaps...but it really seems unlikely.

Thank you everybody for your wise and helpful answers. A 22kW charger is indeed unlikely for 2021.

I live near an industrial area and have 3×32A (actually 40A breakers).
I know people that live at a remote area and have that too (like farmers etc) but indeed, it's not that common.

Well I for one would have loved to have a 22kW charger in my Taycan. I have 3 phase with 64 amp into the house and can charge a Tesla model S with 22 kW, if needed. But I fully agree it all depends on your use case. 11 kW is plenty at home if you need the car on a daily basis. It charges fine overnight at 11 kW.

But my use case is for longer tours with the car. Up to the Italian mountain areas (at least pre Covid-19!) or to the French and Italian vineyards etc. There are not that many HPC in Italy as yet, mostly up to 50kW, but very often out of service. Too often in fact.

in my screen shot below you can see the number of 22kW capable chargers there are around about a 1 hours drive from home. Hundreds! So if you need to top up and the 50 kW is down ( normally just one charger as well) there are options to get you going. And nearly all of these are covered by the Porsche Charging Service. And most of France and Italy have similar density.

Until such time that Ionity have built out a proper HPC network, which most likely will take 3 to 5 years, a 22 kW charger option is in my mind well spent money. I guess it would cost maximum 500 Euro for such a charger ( not Porsche pricing perhaps, but normal pricing).

14 min, wow, not even enough time to sprint to the loo and get a coffee. 22 min is already tight for that.

Hi all,
I got an update about the onboard AC-charger.
A information blogpost from a Porsche Centre in the Netherlands says the following:
Porsche Taycan Charger 2021 Taycan 4S Schermfoto 2020-06-11 om 10.27.12

The highlighted text says the following: 'Home charging is possible with a maximum capacity of 11 kW (alternating current / AC); in time, a 22 kW on-board AC charger will also be available.'

The MY2021 is therefore expected to have a 22Kwh AC charger!

Nice to have something in writing. But it does not explicitly say WHEN this 22 kW on-board charger will be available. It might be MY21, but who knows?!

I know from personal experience with the Audi e-tron that from the time it was introduced in late 2018 / early 2019 that they had promised that a 22 kW AC charger would become available. But to this day, it cannot be ordered. Allegedly, because of some trouble with the supplier of this part it's been delayed over and over again.

I have also an inquiry ongoing through my sales rep with Porsche Germany if and when this feature will be available. I hope to get some information by early next week. At least, that's my sales rep's expectation when he will get a feedback.
