I recently got WPN9 and WPS9 done. They did not do APB6 as I did not get charger with me.

maybe coincidence, but after this at home, using supplied charger, it keeps getting errored out, it begins, then randomly after an hour or so, stalls out. Charger is at yellow, and sometimes red. Simply remove cable and insert and charge again, good to go for sometime. Around 8.6kw.

today I tried at 50% and that seemed to run fine. Need to validate with one more run.

anyone seen this? I will call dealer next week.

honestly - I'm tired of all the problems with porsche EVSE's (EV Chargers) - recommend getting a Tesla Universal Wall Charger or ChargePointFlex

I am in North Carolina. So yes, this time if year, outside between 85-90 F, which means garage will be hot. It’s summer here.

Would that be an issue?

That's your issue. PMC+/PMCC are well known for overheating (that is what APB6 is all about - read the recall). Charging at 50% helps alleviate half the heat generation.

Got it. So if the 50% works, that shall kind of prove the theory.

What’s the point of APB6 then I wonder, I can myself set to 50%.

Thanks a lot for this.

it was CYA before Porsche decided to recall the PMC+/PMCC and provide a new NEMA 14-50/6-50 power supply cable - setting the unit to 50% charge rate:
  • doubles your charging time
  • lowers the heat the unit generates
  • lowers the chance the PMC+/PMCC nominal operating temperature will melt cheap NEMA sockets…
  • the APB6 tech bulletin was never meant to "fix" anything - but mitigate risks while Porsche decided what to do next…
the unit has issues and really really isn't Porsche's best effort.

Got it.
I got the car last year in september, so this is first time facing the NC, USA summer heat in garage. It probably has always been like this.

All they have to do is replace the AWG10 wire with AWG8. That will stop the wire from heating the plug. Their fix doesn't address the root cause. While the wire size is technically correct for 105C max temperature it doesn't help the owner whose hand gets burned. I bought a Grizzl-e and it used AWG8 wire and is cool to the touch at 40Amps charging rate.

From the few reports we got so far from people who had APB6 done, that is what APB6 does, plus a temperature sensor in the plug.

Don’t think it has anything to do with the cable. I have never used the Porsche charger just a dumb grizzle e charger. My car errors out all of the time. Been trying to get it fixed for forever now. It’s a fault in the vehicle itself. So far I have had two different loaner Taycans for over a three month period and neither of them have ever errored out during a charge session just my car has.

Thank you I haven't had mine done yet, no parts. I knew about the sensor, but not the change in wire size.
