Folks,

Is there a charging route planner that allows you to select the state of charge you depart with (ie set to 100%) and the state of charge you want to arrive with (ie 'as fully charged as possible')?

And ideally that includes ALL available high-power chargers - not just the ones sponsoring it - preferably with live status?

I can do this manually of course using the likes of Zap-Map - but it would be nice to see how specialist software would plan it .

Maybe I am missing something?.... From what I can tell - most apps seem to expect you to want to arrive at your destination with close to zero charge. This is usually not the case for me. I want to get to most destinations almost fully charged - with enough power to do what I have to do there.

So a final top-up stop - close to destination is needed.

Any pointers welcome

cheers

Someone recommended ‘a better route planner’ to me on the basis it can be set to ensure you be arrive at your destination with plenty in the tank. Haven’t used it because my car is delayed!!!

Thanks Marcus - I looked at ABRP but it only seems to recommend a single stop mid-way - so you arrive depleted can't see how to select required arrival charge - but maybe that's the premium option which I did not explore.

I use ABRP on all of my long road trips. I use the free version. Under the “Battery” setting there is a destination SOC setting.

The My Porsche App does this for departing state of charge and the PCM lets you set the minimum arrival charge at destination.

HPC chargers are then identified along your route as needed OR you can add your own stopovers (charging stops) and filter the type and speed of charger you want.

Thanks Adrian - I thought the Porsche app only offers Ionity ones?

or can you manually add ones from zap map etc in such a way to allow preheating of battery etc?

cheers

It doesn't offer all possible options but will offer those which have a contractual relationship with Porsche - Ionity, Porsche Marketplace (dealerships), Osprey, others. By no means perfect (yet) but the functionality is there.

Much better to plan the route on the PCM and add your own stopovers where you can choose (and easily filter) pretty much any and all providers. This will also incorporate pre-conditioning (less relevant now I think with uPdate). Selecting a listed DC EVSE on the app would also provide pre-conditioning (of course).

I am interested in this too, and I expect everybody will be!

Most ordinary route planners I have tried pretty well only have “fastest route” or “shortest route”. The first can take me almost 30 miles further to keep on dual carriageway and the second takes shortcuts down super narrow roads to save 50 yards :(

Toyota have a “ecological” choice on their onboard planner, which has worked out best most of the time for us, it is the only one recommending the route we found by trial and error to be the best to Anglesey.

In a bored moment I looked at ABRP to see this trip I do 3 or 4 times a year to my daughter’s and have done for 15 years or so.

ABRP recommended the normal crap route they all do and arriving with 10%, so I started looking at the route using Zap-Map for reasonably fast chargers and am now sure I will still be able to use my “good” route and just use the Porsche planner to navigate to each charging station I intend to use :(.

Hopefully there is a non-rubbish automatic method but my experience with sat nav so far is they get you there but not necessarily by a particularly optimum route.

Sorry for a further noddy question.....

Please advise, how do you specify a 'stopover' (waypoint) as a charger for preconditioning? If you can't differentiate these, I guess it would preheat for every stop-over even ones where you might not be charging.

Is there a PCM function where you can specify a waypoint as a high capacity DC charger?

I haven't got my car yet - just trying to prepare - so if this is something complex that will be explained when I get it - no need to explain.

cheers

I'd be surprised if PIRM would not give you suitable 'optimum' choices to select alternatives routes (and modify as needed for preferred charging stops) for your routes. Note also that Google Traffic can meddle in this area and re-route perhaps when you don't want to - can be disabled.

I had a challenge when touring Rep of Ireland last month and invariable the optimum route was via 'L' classified roads which are basically Lanes / single track and therefore not ideal. There are options to optimise the route to an extend but nothing like 'select A-class roads' which would be useful.

Thanks Frank - yes my present understanding is that a manually prepared route in sat nav is best - not sure yet how to incorporate auto-preheating battery on approach to chargers into that yet - but hopefully all will be made clear.

Simply select an EVSE which is DC and 50kW or greater (no pre-conditioning for AC charging) and and add as a 'Stopover' in NAV - the rest is automatic and will pre-condition as needed (heat to 32C) for arrival.

Details for EVSEs (AC & DC) will be listed in NAV or you can search - the software will provide details of any selected and the title generally gives you the rated capacity etc.

Really simple and no drama.

Thanks. Is there a definitive list of those please? I just had in my (small) mind that the porsche service was just for porsche dealerships and ionity.
I know about the ionity discount (now valuable), but are the others just full price, but more 'convenient' because you can use the porsche card to pay for them.

I don't have a list but fire up the app (check the filter setting doesn't exclude anything) and look around the map in your target area. Various EVSEs will start to appear (be patient), select and see who the provider is - you may be surprised.

There is probably a way to find them all but I've not come across it yet.
