Hi - just noticed this crack or laceration in my 21” continentals sidewall. Only have 3k miles on the tire and no loss of air pressure. Would you guys have this replaced or just watch? I do have tire insurance but not sure if this is covered if the tire holds air…

I would replace. You don't want to take chances with tires.

I agree. If it does eventually go out it will likely happen at a most inopportune time.

I would check with your insurance. Maybe they will go ahead and replace.

Thanks. I’ll just go ahead and get it done proactively.

Agree - replace.
If it's going to explode, it won't be when it's sat in your drive.

And as the cars are heavy, the tyre walls have extra reinforcement, so there will be a lot of pressure on it compared to an ICE.

Given that there appear to be no scuff marks indicating contact with a curb or what have you, that crack might be a defect which would qualify for replacement under the tire manufacturer's warranty. Might be worth looking into. Regardless, you need a new tire.

What!!! Enlarge the picture. There are clear marks on both the sidewall and the rim.
That is 100% not a tyre defect and I have seen hundreds of damaged tyres.

It looks like someone has attempted to slash your tyre.
Not to me it doesn’t, that is typical kerbing tear.
I have seen plenty like that and the scuff continues along the sidewall where the load was no longer high enough to shear the rubber off the carcass.

Replace it. If it blows and damages the rim, the tire/rim insurance (if that is the coverage you have) may not cover rim repairs since you knew of the tire issue and failed to get it replaced.

If the OP caused the damage, then a warranty claim wouldn't be appropriate. No need to get excited.

Not worried about warranty since I have the tire replacement policy. It was so subtle that I didn’t pick it up aside from my boy scout practice of inspecting the car before driving.

of course the tire isn’t in stock so it’ll get replaced next week…
