An excerpt: “The 4S' handling sets it apart, with an immediacy to its steering and braking, paired with a well-sorted air suspension that is everyday-livable, yet capable of making the most out of every corner. It doesn't even take nine-tenths handling to figure out how special the 4S feels...”

The only problem is their comment on the range. Most of these journalists don't do their homework to understand that in application, the Taycan and the Model S have very similar ranges. They always state the EPA range as fact which hurts the Taycan image.

It's such a bummer that range is considered one of the most important factors when buying an EV, while our standard (EPA) for determining range is so faulty.

The irony is that no one cares about fuel efficiency for sports cars, but somehow for EV sports cars, it's a priority. Go figure...

people get way too hung up on range. IMHO a car with less than 100 miles of range is too little for most people and anything over 300 miles isn't really necessary and the manufacturers are putting too much effort into creating 400+ cars.

As more and more charging stations come on line high ranges become far less important.
the vast majority of people rarely drive more than 200 miles per day on their normal days.
the few who have massive commutes will either have a place to charge while at work or they will find a fast charger.

most of cross country routes are well covered with chargers spaced around 100 to 150 miles apart.
the car charges most efficiently at low SOC levels. so making a 20 minute stop every 2-2.5 hours while traveling IMHO isn't a bad thing. especially for the more aged people.

the people on road trips off of the beaten paths are the ones who need to do extensive planning, finding hotels with L2 chargers and the like.

the taycan seems to be able to go 250 miles or so per 100% charge which is a good start on a road trip, and then running the car to a low SOC and charging just enough to make the next charger is the way to get the most efficient charging, and having all the extra range can be superfluous.

of course someone will say that there are stretches of highways where you need all the range you can get but those places are rare and as the charging system is built out will become rarer.

It is totally irrelevant for most of us on most days, but it is kind of fun to know that one can drive dynamically but still not waste energy. Frankly, 0-60 acceleration and top speed are equally irrelevant in daily use but knowing that those are on hand is a nice feeling. I guess it is similar with the off-roading abilities of a Range Rover?

Yep. Tested a Taycan Turbo on a very range demanding drive we make regularly in our S100D - 200 miles, 6400 ft vertical climb. The Tycan easily matched or bettered the Tesla. And the 4S had better range than the Turbo. I ordered a 4S and sold the MS.
