How did you end up making your wireless carplay work? I have a 2021 that I just picked up as well in the US. When I check my phone's CarPlay, it recognizes my car but my car doesn't show that anything is connected via bluetooth (second pic). Thoughts?
I read that wireless CarPlay requires more bandwidth than Bluetooth allows, so your iPhone must be connected to the Taycan by WiFi for wireless CarPlay to work. I'll update this post if I find the reference.
Update:
@Tay Tay said, "Both wifi and bluetooth are bidirectional communication protocols. Wifi has greater bandwidth so is required for things that are more data intensive (like wireless Apple Carplay)." https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/threads/what-is-the-pcm-hotspot-for-anyway.2200/post-30554
Also, from the Porsche Connect Good to Know manual: "When Apple CarPlay is used, any active Bluetooth® connections (e.g. for telephony, media playback or news) are automatically disconnected."

Awesome, that tip actually did the trick! When I was setting up my PCM the first time, I wasn't able to activate the WIFI and so I just skipped that step. I went back this time and dug around until I found the vehicle's WIFI settings (Home > Devices > the three little ellipses shown below) and checked the WIFI box to "on" in the car, and it activated wireless CarPlay right away. And as you said and seen below, everything goes through the WIFI connection unstead of bluetooth.

Thanks!

the dealer 'expert' just told me that the '21's do NOT have wireless carplay - said Porsche could not get it to work properly

told me to plug in iphone, that does work..

is that your understanding ???
I can confirm that wireless CarPlay works perfectly well in my MY21 in the US

Funny, I picked up my 2021 Taycan Turbo S earlier in the week. The dealer has a specific PCM trained expert. When I told him Apply CarPlay should work wireless he disagreed. I set up the phone with him sitting next to me and got wireless CarPlay going on my first try. All he could do was look and laugh.

The reality is, all the techs are still getting up to speed on the new technology. And Porsche is continuing to work through it. I have known my service manager for about 15 years given all the vehicles I have purchased over the years. I feel for him and the need he has to essentially become a computer programmer rather than an automotive service technician as more and more electric cars will be sold. This is not a small learning curve for them.

The cars are essentially computers on wheels now. Less parts that wear and tear, more electric sophistication. Everyone needs to adjust.

Now if they can only get my SXM Satellite radio to work!!!! Lol

it’s unlikely Porsche will ever support Android Auto due to the data disclosure requirements to license it - basically google wants a constant stream of OBDII data parameters - this is the performance data of the vehicle - Porsche considers their performance data some of their best intellectual property - they certainly are not going to serve up fleet data about the performance of their vehicles to google…

I have a USA 2021 and mine works great. In order to get it working you have to first pair your phone to the cars Bluetooth AND WiFi. The WiFi is the key. Then go into “devices” on the PCM and you should see your phone. Then press the car play icon (the third one over). At some point during this setup your phone will ask if it’s ok to use CarPlay.

I have a 2021 Taycan 4s (Dubai) but my dealership told me that it doesn't have wireless CarPlay. No matter how much i fiddled with the settings I could not get it to work. I cannot find anything pertaining to wifi settings on the PCM. For my own sanity, could you please guide me step by step on how to find the wifi settings and activate CarPlay?

Hope the below images help to guide you to where the wifi settings are. Once you check the wifi box to turn the Taycan's wifi hotspot on, go into your phone's wifi settings to find your car and connect to it. If it connects successfully, you should see your device listed. Then you can go into your phone's carplay settings and see your car there too.

Once you're connected, go back to your device's menu (the second picture) and click on the carplay icon. Alternatively, you sould have a carplay icon on the main menu like I do too (first picture).

Sadly, it looks like it really isn’t available in the region as I followed your steps and I can only find “General” and “Bluetooth” settings and nothing about wifi or other connection settings.

Thanks a lot though for the detailed explanation! I really do appreciate it.

That dealer has already failed the Taycanforum test for dealers. My 2021 model plays music through Apple Carplay nicely with no cable.
All Taycans will stream music from your iphone through the wireless bluetooth connection, but that isn't the same thing as wireless CarPlay, which entails many more features and apps from the iphone, such as maps, texts, and many more showing up on the PCM screen.

Maps, messages etc. also works fine here in Norway, at least.

When moving from CarPlay back to the PCM (i.e. touching the Posche icon) does what ever is running in CarPlay continue to run? So for example i'm in CarPlay, fire up Waze and its calling out turns, Police, accidents, etc. If I flip back to the PCM and turn on the radio, does Waze continue running and talk over the radio, or did the flip from CarPlay to PCM suspend Waze?

Have delivered 3 MY21 Taycan so far and Apple CarPlay worked wirelessly every time on each delivery.

Rumor is this will hopefully be retrofitted via software update to MY20 Taycan. Fingers crossed!
