First Road Trip from DC to Syracuse: What do I need to know?

So, I was playing around with Navigation this morning, and I noticed that it only showed less than 10 minutes difference on a 7 hour 25 minute trip between range and normal mode: I found this to be very surprising. Is this since I haven’t taken long enough trips that the calculation doesn’t reflect the difference, or is range mode just not that material? I’m not worried about impact on performance, but more about on air conditioning (rear passengers could suffer a bit on Range mode for Tesla model X). I mean, why bother for just 10 minutes? What am I missing?
