Porsche Taycan Garage is hot, Taycan is cool. Normal??? Screen Shot 2022-08-07 at 2.21.20 PM

My garage is stifling hot in the summer, but the Taycan, while plugged in and charging, seems pretty cool at all times. Out of curiosity, I felt around to see where the cool air was coming from and discovered the little fan behind the center console was blowing out cool air (where pictured). Not a strong current but definitely noticeable when you stick your hand behind the screen. My key is nowhere near the car when I check so I know the car is not pre-conditioning itself. I don't mind the car keeping itself cool, it just seems like a waste of energy and I do not know if this is the normal or something that should be addressed by the dealer. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

It might be like tesla, it cools itself if cabin temperature goes over certain F (or C)

This sounds like you have the option to preheat or precool the car if the driver's door is opened - is that possible?

I didn't know the Taycan did this (apart from the obvious times it is pre-cooling mode), but it makes sense to keep the cabin from overheating and affecting the leather/plastics and also the electronics. Teslas have this as a variable temperature setting when it kicks in.

As for the waste of energy, if it's just a fan as you observed, that really isn't much of a drain on a 12V battery that gets topped up from a 93.4kWh battery.

If it needs to kick in the airconditioning, yeah it's a bit of energy, but well worth it to keep the cabin at a safe temperature IMHO. In my old Tesla, between the cabin overheat protection and sentry cameras, it never used more than 1-2% of the battery while parked for a whole day in the sun.

Is this an option to turn off? I hate that it automatically kicks in the pre-cooling when I open the driver's door to quickly grab something from the car.

Yes you can. Option under AC sittings precool/ preheat unlocking within PCM.

The fan you feel is just the cooling fan for the display. It turns on with the display. It's not actively cooled it's just the airflow that make it feel cool.

I'm not aware of the Taycan having any automatic cabin overheat protection. Never seen it in mine. But f you keep it in a garage it will take quite a while before it heats up as there is a lot of mass and it's quite well insulated.

If you park it outside in the direct sunlight I promise you it will hot :D
