I believe our ship has started on its way toward the Canal and locks, after waiting most of the day. 6pm PST. Woohoo!

My Car is on the Asteria Leader(left Emden 12/2) and it took 9 hours from the time the Ship arrived in Panama to clear the Canal.

Thanks for posting this! I was running out of steam watching this thing cross the Atlantic at 16 kts. It's going to be close!

Have you, by any chance, discussed delivery and purchase timing with your dealer? Curious as to the earliest they can sell the car and if there will be special dispensation (pre PDI, etc.) due to the unique year end situation.

Good morning. You're welcome. I'm mildly obsessed with following it.
It is again on the move this morning after parking in Gatun Lake overnight in a queue waiting to move on. I would imagine we will be out in the Pacific by mid afternoon.
To answer your question- yes I have. This is going back a few weeks, but he was well aware of how anxious I am to get the credit before the end of year. Original delivery date was 12/31/21, but had slipped to mid January, but it may end up in Benicia right around that original date.
He said the car needs to come off the boat and be "scanned" to dealer inventory and assigned to a truck, and then technically the sale paperwork can occur up at the dealership. There are no open campaigns on my car or missing chips, and some people on the east coast had theirs off the boats within 24-36 hours (scanned) so I am hoping we can do that here. I think I am realistically looking at arrival in Benicia 28th or 29th hopefully, scanned, and do the deal 30th or 31st. I am going to be really bummed if I miss $7500 by a few days.
I imagine the car might even 2-4 days to make the dealer, and then PDI and software updates and charging take 24-48 hours too.

Thanks Matt, that's just the information I was looking for.

My car was also originally estimated for delivery on 12/31/21. Don't want to get my hopes up, but looks like we'll be maddeningly close. I put my SA through the ringer last year due my indecision, so giving him a little rehab time. Looks like I'll need to get in touch soon.

Thank you for the location post. Starting to be a little more hopeful re getting the tax credit. My car is supposed to unload at SD, and as my VIN does not seem to have any outstanding stuff either, my dealer rep is expecting to have the car scanned asap.

I was told today, for a second time by the Dealer, that he had to physically have the Car on his lot to allow me to pay for it. I also have a late Dec arrival and also hoping to make year end. Maybe some Dealers are more flexible with the rules of taking official ownership.

Que'd outside the canal anchorage waiting traffic for its turn to proceed onward into the Pacific. View attachment 27433
Already in the canal...should reach the Pacific by end of day today/tomorrow. Scheduled to dock next in San Diego on 26 Dec 2021.

Mine as well. Off-loading in SD. Who is your dealer?

Looks like we're in the Pacific and underway!

Hoping that this alleged Lazaro Cardenas stop is an error... it doesn't even appear as a possible port on the Stena Glovis schedules. That being said, it looks like it's right on the way. If it adds even one day to the schedule, no one's going to complete that transaction in 2021! I don't blame them for pulling over to pee, it's been WEEKS since they left Germany, and I assume they took on some tasty German brews at Emden.

Forgive my ignorance on the tax credit, but where can I see that it expires in 2021? I did see that if the "build back better" act passes, the credit will be reduced or eliminated for those with high incomes (depending on how high.) I hope that most of us have high incomes, or we wouldn't be buying these cars! But... that bill is looking like it won't pass. So does the $7,500 really disappear in 2021? Point me to the evidence. Thanks!

For some reason some of the Stena ROROs have been making this stop at Lazaro thats not on the schedule. You may or may not recall Brunswick Georgia was not on the schedule either, and I was dismayed to see it head there first before Santa Marta. That added a good many days. And I don't know about any San Diego people, but I agree it's likely any chance of making the end of the year just went from 70/30 to a very faint hope.
As fat as the tax credit is concerned, I don't know where to point you to for internet info, but the texts of the Bills have been reported here. If I could summarize as I understand it it is or may be one or more of the following-

1. Sedans exceeding MSRPs of about $55k will lose the tax credit at end of 2021.
2. Bill will pass in early 2022 but be retroactive to start of 2022.
or. 3. Bill will pass but leave tax credit in effect for those at time of passage.

Given all these scenarios, safest bet seemed to get car here by end of year, scanned, sale paperwork done by 12/31/21.
Now that seems likely out the window. That being said, I'm certainly not going to let it ruin my enjoyment of delivery of the car. Like my Mother would say- "Its only money."

Legally, as of today, the tax credit remains applicable to the Taycan. The "Build Back Better" package pending in Congress would have eliminated the credit for Taycans and other more expensive EVs. The terms of the proposed bills were not clear as to whether the credit would be eliminated starting with the 2022 tax year or on the date the bill was signed but it was clear that if the car transfers title in 2021 the Taycan would still be eligible.

Yes, today we have an announcement by Senator Joe Manchin, the 50th vote, that he won't vote for BBB so it looks like it's dead. However, I have worked in politics for 40 years and these things have a habit of springing back to life. If there is anyway to get your dealer to finalize the sale or lease by 2021, it is advisable.

Could not agree more… can’t let 5% get in the way of the fun!
