Positive it was active? If not active, car also charges to 100%.

Profile set to 85% min on optimized and nothing else results in charging to 85% immediately when plugged in. So, you either had something set wrong or the car didn’t take the settings.
That’s why I wasn’t sure. I did it right apparently to me and everything you mentioned. Either way the timer worked for me so I never looked into it again.

Well if you want to charge at night (when eletricity is cheaper in many countries) then you need a mix of profile and timer.

Lots of instructions on this on the site.

Not necessarily. You can often use just a timer. It depends on specifics. But I’ve seen several people set up both when they only needed a timer.

Yep, just timer works best for this purpose. Set it for the target SOC, and end time of your cheap rates. Works 100% reliably.

Except it didn't for me this week, I double checked and woke up and it was at 100%. I believe something rebooted and it lost what I had set it to.

Must be, because I have used that method on both of my Taycan and it has worked 100% of the time for over a year.

What he says. Just set the general profile to your required target charge (85%). I think mine was set to 25% when the car arrived. Then it will charge to that straight away, every time you plug in. I'd set it up in the car, not the app. It's exactly what i have done and works every time.

Your sales guy is wrong, ask the Taycan product specialist, not the sales guy. You definitely don't need to use timers, unless you want it to only start charging at a particular time due to a night time cheap electric tariff or something.

Dumb question, but have you made sure that the profile is turned on? This is how it should look like:

General profile.
85% min.
Optimized charging.

No timer.
This is the way.

I have had problems with the Preferred Time option instead of Optimized Charging under Profile. Preferred Time would result in charging to 100%. No idea why.

The configuration @Jhenson29 shared, with no competing timers is the simplest way to reliably maintain a charge target percentage.

When I was commuting daily, I did have a recurring preconditioning timer to preheat the car for departure each morning, but I excluded charging from that.

Nowadays, without a daily commute (WFH) I occasionally use specific date/time non-recurring departure timers if I need to precondition or to bring charge up to 100% for a longer trip.

It’s setting a time to continue charging, but there’s no other limit set, so it just goes to 100%.

If used with a timer, the car will only charge to the timer target charge, and it will use as much of the profile preferred time as it can to do so.

See this post below for more explanation and examples with graphs.

This works for me.

I believe you need to have the timer "repeat" every day, or after so long (30 min?) the car starts charging again to 100%
