DC (among many places) today is experiencing poor air quality due to the wildfires in Canada. I have the ionizer option but have not needed to think about it until today, so I looked it up in the well-written, comprehensive, easy to search, and clear manual. Yup.

Ok, so why wouldn’t one just leave ionizer on all of the time? Does it just lead to needing to change the filter more often? Anything to know about this?

Thanks.

I have mine set to always on and ac in eco mode. It’s extremely beneficial to your health.

It does a pretty good job in eco mode I think. I’ve never even tried standard mode. Does it significantly reduce range?

I’ve not been able to see much of a difference BUT most of my driving is urban short distance, and I usually have plenty of range for occasional road trips and passengers occasionally complain when I have tried eco (in August), particularly back seat passengers.

I should probably run the Ioniser in and around London in the Taycan.

I ran the bio-hazard filter nonsense in the Tesla the other day when I visitited the tip (no jokes please about Teslas and tips) and it just doubles the noise from the HVAC so couldn't see myself running that all the time. But the ioniser should be fine to run permanently.

So this begs the question: why didn’t Porsche make it default on for those with the option?

I’m still trying to understand why one would want to turn it off.

Ok, I found that I don’t seem to have an ionizer icon BUT if you manage to wade through the odd ac control menus, it is a tick box option. Mine was selected so it is always on.

Too bad the manual sucks so badly that you would never be able to understand this by simply reading. I could understand if this were merely an issue if an outdated paper manual, but jeez this is online so they could update daily.

Ionisers generate a very small amount of ozone. Almost 100% benign but would leave porsche to lawsuits if there was no way of disabling it.

Thanks. To be clear, I’m pro-choice. My questions arose because my menu does not match what I had read on the forum here (with an icon to push) and it was not clear in the manual. I finally figured it out by wading through the right cascading menu.

Ioniser hasn’t been around to specify as an option for a while, anyone known if it’s now standard. I can’t see it in the list of standard features.

Biohazard mode creates positive pressure inside the car, hence the increased HVAC noise. This is needed if you want to guarantee no unfiltered air enters the car. Different usecase than ionizer.

My ionizer has been on since I got the car, I never bothered turning it off. Recently I got stuck behind some broken diesel SUV which put out black smoke to the point where I couldn't see anything. Needing to concentrate on driving the car in reduced visibility I was a second or two late on hitting the air recycle touch screen button. I expected some of the smoke to smell inside the car, yet I smelled nothing! Perhaps the ionizer did it's job, or I just got lucky.

Mine shows up right on the Ventilation tab of the Climate Menu (see red arrow below). I don't recall seeing it in any menus.

Mine is in a menu, but your A/C view is very different from mine in general? Is that a Model Year thing? Not my picture, it's from a YouTube video, but identical:
