If litihium ion is burning. It isn’t going out by any single human means. Thus the 20 ft container comment. Does it fit in a 20 ft container? Seems like one of those low rider dirt/concrete oriented truck loadable trash bins would work better.

Well, I didn't think it would put out a fire 🤣

Fire trucks have a hard enough time with that!

But I wasn't sure if anyone carried one for any specific purpose, etc.

I am fascinated to know what specific purpose you had in mind for it if not to put out a fire…

I think the point is a regular auto fire extinguisher is good enough. You got to catch it before liIon is an issue. Once that happens, it is too late.
I have not heard of liIon type extinguisher.

A small bottle extinguisher isn't going to really help you too much. Best to get away from the vehicle. You would use a class B extinguisher (same type you use for oil and gas).

This video shows how bad the fire can be for a small battery, let a lone a car.

I know once the battery catches on fire, there's not much you can do but I asked in case I was missing anything... 🤷‍♂️
  • If something else catches on fire I'd like to put it out before it spreads.
  • With little kids in the back, maybe it buys some time to GTFO (like that tesla in BC that locked the driver in).
  • A friend of mine gets a bit of a break on his insurance for having an extinguisher in his Huracan.

As mentioned, you're not going to put out a battery fire with an extinguisher. But for general purpose use the Element Fire Extinguishers are great to carry in a car. They will provide fire suppression for 50 or 100 seconds (depending on the model) which is much longer than a standard 2 pound car extinguisher. They dispense a non-toxic, no residue gas and can be stored indefinitely. The 50 second version is small enough to be kept in the glove box. No affiliation, I just think they are a neat product. You can check out the demo that they did on Jay Leno's Garage.
