Hi everyone. I have a 21 Taycan and I absolutely love it and it’s my daily driver. I’m looking to add a preowned 911 and just wondering if anyone else here on the form has a 911 as a weekend car if so, what do you have and how do you like it? Which generation would you recommend but I’m looking to spend around 60 K or less

I have a 23 GTS Cab as my daily, not a weekend car. I would pick up the keys to the 911 over the Taycan pretty much every time, given the choice.

Probably looking at 996 and 997 in that price range. Maybe some 991.1.

IMO, the best driving experience is a GT3, but there's no GT3 close to $60k at the moment.

The best value is a 991.1 or 991.2 Carrera S. Even a base 991.2 Carrera is a great car. I would also consider a 981 GTS, Spyder, GT4 or S

I had a 997 for 6yrs. Taycan prompted its departure as I had other toys that fulfilled the weekend toy requirement better (ie way more differently than the Taycan).

991 and beyond would be "worse" in this respect IMO. ie the Taycan is sufficiently capable that you are likely to find the times you really want to use the 911 will be limited (unless it's for the looks/noise, which is fair enough). And if you have anything from a 4S Taycan up, only the top end 911s will be better performance-wise.

I had a 992 loaner and was very meh about it. Inside it felt no better than a Taycan (worse than mine tbh), and it felt like it was trying too hard powertrain/performance wise. Felt like I'd stepped back in time, but not far enough for rose tinted spectacles to forgive it.

997 would be the newest I would even remotely consider (2S or 4S - I had the latter, but again sold it!). I'm not a fan of the 996, so if it were me and it were for genuine weekend hooning, I'd be looking at air cooled. The point of these is not about outright performance, but the joy of driving when it was more raw.

They'll hold value better too, but will cost more to run.

I have a 2009 997.2 911S which I have driven for 15 years, now with about 97k miles on it.
I drive it regularly from April-November in combination with my 2020 Taycan 4S.
I really enjoy switching out the pair during the fair weather months.
It's hard to fault the 997.2....top speed 184 mph, 4 second 0-60, DFI/PDK.
However, I may reluctantly trade it for a Cayman E when it's available.

I have a 992 turbo s. works as advertised. apart from the track, the only area where it is clearly better vs taycan is fast driving on tight twisty mountain roads. Taycan has great dynamics but it's too heavy. 992 tts is on rails. other than that, it s about emotions (engine noise, gear shifts etc) , taycan does most driving things flawlessly.

I wanted a 911 badly before getting the Taycan (and I will still get a new/newer one with a manual transmission) but if I am honest with myself, the Taycan has scratched 80% of the itch that I had for the 911.

My "weekender" is a 997.2 911 S Cab. Yes, it's water-cooled, but otherwise that very last of the "analog" 911's. Its successor, the 991, was a big step CLOSER to what you and I have in the Taycan. As others have opined, 997 and earlier will give you a nice contrast to your "digital" Taycan, at the price range you desire.

Absolutely, and while the 997.2 has the smaller old-school air-cooled 911 character, it has PSAM, better lighting, great brakes all around. While some prefer manual, my left bionic knee really appreciates PDK.....and it's Porsche Racing Green Metallic...not quite Mamba

I have a 991.1 C2S, and the sound of the NA is just great. I drive it on some weekends and it's always a blast. It's nowhere as quick as the Taycan turbo on a straight line but it's definitely more fun to drive.

The PDK in the 997.2 is actually very good...though I did find it very lethargic if not in Sport or Sport+.

Also needs the sport type steering wheel (ali trim and proper ali paddles).

It helps that the 997 looks lovely and still wasn't that big.

I just had a look at air-cooled 911s here in the UK. Prices are very firm! Cheapest here is £55k (ignoring LHD), so $70k....997.2s (not a fan of the .1) are from half that!

Hmmm.......I am not sure what 997.2's in good shape would fetch in the U.S.
The market here has cooled a bit, however as the say, they are not making them anymore.
I imagine that they will appreciate over the next decade.

I have a 2024 992.1 Carrera T Manual and a 1991 964 C2 Manual. I was surprised how similar the T cabin feels to my 2020 4S Taycan, both with the 18 ways and Bose. The T is a terrific car. Daily is the Taycan, weekends the T, and on special occasions the 964. My daughter grew up in the 964.

I have just gone through the same process. I have 22 CT and wanted to try out a 911 for the weekends with a budget between 50-65k. ended up just purchasing a 2014 991 carrera cab for around $55k. I figured the wife would like it too 😁. for that price point I was seeing mostly 2009-2015’s. haven’t had the car delivered yet, so can only comment on the buying logic.
