There is a very loud noise coming from my car, it's charging right now in the garage. Sounds like a fan. Any idea what this is? I heard it earlier this week once when I pulled into the garage, but it stopped when I turned the car off and I ignored it.

I'm planning on a long drive tomorrow, I'm wondering if I should be concerned.

I'm not sure what "loud" is but my car also has a fan running while charging. I've only had it for 2 weeks but I've always assumed it's normal. I would put it in the "noticeable" realm but not "loud".

This is definitely loud. Here's a quick video. There is a lot of air blowing out through the wheel well. I didn't open the hood though.

Yes, I've had the car almost 3 years and this is new. I will definitely talk to the dealer, but I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

This does sound extreme. By any chance is the car in Sport Plus mode, charging, and not powered off? This sounds like what happens in SP mode when connected to an L3 charger - fans and cooling going full tilt.

It's charging, like I said. Not in sports plus nor turned on.

I seem to recall once or twice having a significant amount (more than usual) of cooling fan noise when charging in my garage but possibly only occurred when ambient temps were very high and being in an enclosed garage was not helping - car was off and last drive mode Normal but TBH cannot recall SoC nor if it occurred immediately after a long drive etc.

But if none of the above fit your case your cooling/battery system might indeed need a check-up!

PS: if you had an extension cable (I do), might be interesting to see if this behaviour persists when AC changing in a less restricted airflow area. I'm reaching!

+1

When it is hot, i.e. 90+, the fan has kick on for l2. Now, whether it is normal or not, not sure.

I unplugged the car, so it isn't doing it anymore. But it wasn't hot in my garage. Less than 70 degrees.

I don’t know. Where do you check that?

Was it immediately after a drive? If the battery temp is high (mid range or above) it’s probably just the battery cooling system at work, as was hinted above. The front valances open when the car is plugged in for the same reason - cooling (though passive).
