Macan EV appears to have single speed transmission, unlike Taycan

I was intrigued how the Macan electric looked and cost so I went on the configurator. One of the things I noticed was that if you wanted the noise insulated glass you couldn't have the rear wiper.
No idea why, I have both on the Taycan, but maybe there is an external layer in the Macan version that will wear????
you configured a SUV? 😂

I can’t find the article now, but I’ve read DC is only on one side and which side depends on locale. The PCA article I linked earlier talks about DC only on the left side, but this likely referring to US cars and that’s the same side as the Taycan.
Seems it will be the same basically. Just the port in the rear quarter rather than front

Why is it better for you in the US?
I actually prefer where it is in the Taycan, I can drive easier noze first and close to the charger than having to reverse back.
In some places, it doesn't matter as the charger is on the side but Tesla for example, I have to be couple of cm from the charger to be sure the cable reaches. That would mean that if you reverse with a Macan, you might not be able to open to boot.

On right hand drive market the AC/DC will still be on the left
Regarding the side changing, it’s possible the article I read was wrong or that I am misremembering then.

Me? I’m in the UK - so we’re RHD and in the Taycan I would have preferred the DC port to be in the same place as US-bound or continental European LHD cars - purely for the convenience factor at Tesla SuCs. Even at V4 sites it would be better as the port position is better.

In a continental / US market Taycan your DC port position is perfect position for Tesla sites.

Sorry, I read quickly and I thought it was Jeremy from the US answering and I had to read twice to understand RHD-land.

No worries. We’re in agreement and good that Porsche have kept DC in the same place for both LHD/RHD markets in the Macan. Saves costs and better at Tesla sites 👍

Tha Taycan was a Porsche project which Audi benefited from later.
The Macan is a group development and the amount of Porsche "personality" and technology incorporated will be more restricted by others from the group wanting a standard - probably cheaper - base.
IMO
This is very true. Up until release we kept thinking Macan EV to be the SUV equivalent of Taycan but the moment it came out I realized that perception was not accurate, as would be akin to thinking "Macan ICE is the SUV equivalent of 911". So they chose to clearly de-content Macan from technical standpoint given they realized they would not be able to charge higher prices.

Now the price looks like a bargain compared to Taycan (especially for the Turbo) but on the flipside it got significantly expensive compared to where Macan ICE sat relatively in the portfolio. It feels like it is now falling a bit into a no mans land. I can see some Taycan owners could consider it as a replacement vehicle given their association with the EV Porche concept, but my initial feeling is it could have some hard time pulling the mainstream luxury SUV customer. Take one example: the base 4 model now represents a significant premium over X5 50e - which is an amazing vehicle IMO. Yes Macan will have a better handling but what else? Significantly smaller interior. And Macan ICE always offered that Better Handling-Small interior trade-off but net net it historically came at a discount over other German larger luxury SUVS not a premium. I guess my point is the value of "better handling" drops significantly when you move to SUV segment vs having a unicorn (aka having a 911-like handling EV in the case of Taycan - which you can charge a lot for). Looking forward to see how demand will shape-up for this vehicle.

I know its a question that's been asked here, but I spotted this on the Macan EV configurator:

And judging from the obvious body roll in the promotional film, you’d think they would have featured “Active Ride” on this vehicle; but no.

Overall, I’m tempted when my Taycan lease is up. A few oddities but, hey, it’s Porsche after all and I think it safe to say none of us have the faintest idea what they’re thinking at any given time. The Oak Green is rather lovely I must admit but I’d take the Papaya for £2k odd less I think. Guess I’ll see what the lie of the land is in 20 months time and what the Taycan facelift brings (let alone the tax environment, of course, in our politically turbulent little island).
Given the issues I have seen on the Taycan - I would wait a couple of years at least for the Macan to 'sort' the teething issues/problems it will inevitably experience as a year 1 product...

Update to my post after playing with the configurator abit. Turbo pricing seems REALLY attractive. Depending on how to configure the car price difference between base and Turbo drops to as low as $16K! this is unforseen in the porsche world. A ton of stuff is free on Turbo

I like the 2-speed transmission. Not ideal from a weight, cost, and complexity standpoint but it provides some personality. I am counting on Porsche to maintain some level of personality in their cars.
Totally agree... Each time my Taycan shifts to 2nd gear or downshifts (in combination of the Sport Electric Sound), I have the smile. Generally speaking, in my case I did not buy a Taycan for range or for its price but for the emotions that it transmits when driving it or looking at it.
I hope that the decisions that Porsche made for the Macan will only be for the Macan which in that case I can understand because they just want to target a different type of buyers...
