Indeed, but it depends on one’s priorities.
When I looked at the thread the discussions were almost all about things which are of no consequence to me in a car and there is no way a SUV could have the dynamics of a Taycan so I have paid no attention to it.

Equally the updates on the v2 Taycan are all better but in ways which would rarely, if ever, impact me or anybody else dealing with the type of country roads I use so I have no lust after one.

Indeed but I do feel we are being pushed down the SUV route by international manufacturers and have yet to nail down any significant advantages. Bit like Brexit.
Give me a decent estate any day. Better dynamics, economy, more room in most cases. Of course it’s personal but I would suggest the marketing types are responsible for the growth of SUVs ( and Brexit) rather then there being any great benefits. Like you I’m sticking with my Taycan 4SCT .1

The SUV explosion was created by strict fuel economy rules. The sedan rules got crazy tight so manufacturers responded by pushing vehicles that fit into the more permissive "light truck" rules. Classic Cobra Effect situation.

And we in the UK have been sucked in to the crazy SUV obsession!

Totally agree.

A new Taycan or a new Cayene would ever only tempt me, if the battery would be much larger (same weight) and has excellent self driving features.

The EQA 250+ I am driving is an excellent car because of the selfdriving feature in city and highway driving.

My priorities have shifted over the years. All I want from a car is:
  • pure EV, quiet no vibrations
  • solid space, for golf bags, +
  • super large battery
  • selfdriving assistant

Exactly, owners requirements are totally different.

I also want no noise - I think the nostalgia for what are actually shortcomings in IC engines - noise, narrow power band, multi ratio gearbox - will fade with time.

I am only 74 so still too young for golf but space for my dog is handy.

I don't need a large battery, personally I have not had any range anxiety using mine in 18 months but a much lighter battery with the same range would be a huge improvement for me.

I am a nervous passenger and don't like adaptive cruise never mind a self driving assistant, I'd probably have a heart attack in a self driving or partially self driving car.

My son started playing golf when he was 5. Best thing to do with him together. If 2 golf bags fit, car is big enough for long distance travelling...

I also don't get what people like on nosy stinking excessively underperforming ICE cars. I mean is there anybody still going gaga about a black and white TV from the 1950s?

I also have no range anxiety - way past that after 8 years and quite a few EVs of all kinds of sizes and ranges. But since I have the Zeekr 001 with 140kWh battery, you hardly ever charge, and if only when it is most convenient. Gamechanger, since there are many more fast charging points than there are gas stations driving a diesel ICE with similar range...

That's why the one from T junk in MS90D was so dreadful. It insisted it can do it but constantly failed spectacularly, particularly after the speed limit software was replaced by god knows what...

In the Merc the new one is like a silent helper with the steering, speedlimit recogniser and breaking for traffic ahead. If it finds a lane it can hang onto, it does it, if not, fine. It's also not perfect by a long shot but a tremendous help driving. After a year as my daily driving my Porsche, it feels like going back in time 20 years, where you have to:

1. pay super close attention to speed limits and take action
2. always work hard (I am mostly speeding) to keep car in lane
3. always ready to break if others infront misbehave

My preference would not be for an SUV or estate. Or even a 4 door saloon. Nor a small 2 seater..

No kids / no dogs / no golf clubs (old enough, but not a fop or a dandy 🤣).

Wife has an SUV.

Love the silence of an EV.

I would like something like an EV version of an M2.....small coupe. But light and nimble as possible for an EV.

Or alternatively a decent EV hot hatch.

Looking at the spec for the countries that sell it in Europe, it does not look impressive. If it has 140 kWh battery and still only WLPT range of 600 km’s? There must be a different model where you live

My son started playing golf when he was 5. Best thing to do with him together.
My brother did too and made a career of it.

It was for his benefit I "invented" by jibe - I've been running the "I'm too young" story along with "if I had 4 hours free to do play around I'd be ashamed of myself" to tease him for decades.

It seems young people aren't taking up golf much any more which is a concern. After his playing career he was a Pro, most recently at Blairgowrie now retired and umpiring.

They only made 1000 cars for the Chinese market with it, as far as I remember. It is not available anymore in China with the facelift and was never available outside China. I will hang on to it...

Officially it has 1000 km CLTC range which translate roughtly to 800 km WLTP, which I get easily.
