Are there disadvantages to Mission E wheels compared to 19" or 20" wheels?

Harsher ride?

Easier to scuff?

Easier to bend?

Decreased range?

???

A lot
I can't think of any, except looks but that's a matter of taste.
Definitely not decreased range as it's a Porsche, not a Prius.

According to the range estimator on some of the non-US Porsche sites you lose about 5% over the 19" and 20" variants. Also, being 21" wheels the tires are a bit more susceptible to damage from potholes and such.

But they look awesome so I got 'em. Plenty of range for day-to-day use anyways!

Slightly easier to damage and 5-10% reduced range. But if you like them the best, get 'em. No huge drawbacks.

Choosing the Mission E wheels was the easiest option on my list.

Harsher ride? - The sidewalls of the tire are not rubber band thin. Your suspension setting probably has more impact on the stiffness of the ride than these particular 21 inch rims.

Easier to scuff? - Bad parallel parking, or cutting a corner too tight will scuff the other rims on the Taycan the same as the Mission E.

Easier to bend? - Probably a bit easier to bend in a pothole.

Decreased range? - It's a Porsche. I routinely get 265 miles range driving it like a Porsche.

Some pluses:

It carries over a lot of the character of the Mission E prototype without getting a white Taycan.
It fills out the wheel wells and the 21 inch rim adds to the aggressive stance.
These rims do not hide the massive calipers and rotors
The open design is super easy to clean

If you get them painted, they could get pitted or scratched. Which is why I will probably get mine PPFd. Someone here had the excellent idea of just getting colored PPF instead of paying the cost of getting them painted.

I totally agree with @wemct. The Mission E wheels were the easiest option for me too. I went with the Mission E Wheels on my Jet Black Metallic Taycan and couldn't be happier. To me, those wheels were a huge part of what made the Mission E Concept Car so attractive when first introduced. I was so happy Porsche kept those wheels as a staple of the Taycan offering and was first choice in my configuration.

The only disadvantages in my mind:

  • Slightly more expensive tires (and you can't get Michelin PS4S)
  • Requires the PSCB brakes which I really like but will be an 8K brake job one day.
I'm not unhappy with ride or range. I've hit a few potholes without damage. There are a few tiny nicks which is expected for ~15K miles on the car and happens with any painted wheel.

Would 100% do Mission’s again. A bit of decreased range and not looking forward to tires changes, but 10k miles in and still plenty of tread so I expect to get to 20k miles before first tire change. My only pro-tip would be to Ceramic the painted parts of the wheels - between that and the surround view have managed no scuffs/nicks 10k miles in.

…now of course that I wrote that I fully expect to have jinxed myself :(

I saw the numbers somewhere a long time ago... it's more like 1-2% range loss against the same size wheels UNLESS you are comparing against 19 inch wheels. The bigger impact is the wheel size, not Mission-E specific. Even the 21 inch carbon fibre aeroblade wheels are less efficient than the standard 19 inch wheels. Depending on the model the OP was considering, they might be comparing to 19 inch, 20 inch, or 21 inch wheels that come with the specific model variation.

In any case, the difference is very small. A few miles range off a full battery at most.
