The journey
A nearly 600 km (373 miles) trip from Paris to the Alps showcased the Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo’s strengths and some areas for improvement. The Ionity charging stations along the way were busy, but charging sessions were impressively short. Even with battery pre-conditioning, it wasn’t possible to reach the full 300 kW charging speed. However, stops were extremely efficient—just 15 minutes per charge, which is 5 to 10 minutes faster than my 2020 Taycan Turbo. The charging curve stays remarkably high for a long period, which is a clear upgrade.

Driving comfort and handling
With the Active Ride Suspension, the Taycan provides a regal level of comfort, almost like gliding on the motorway. When the terrain became more challenging, the suspension ensured precise and rigorous handling, holding the line effortlessly. From a dynamic driving perspective, I couldn’t detect any major differences between the Cross Turismo and my previous Taycan saloon. Hats off to Porsche’s engineers for maintaining such exceptional performance!

Range and efficiency
This is where the experience was slightly underwhelming. While the cold weather (around 0°C/32°F), a brisk average speed of 93 km/h (58 mph), 20-inch winter tyres, and mountainous terrain certainly played a role, the range fell short of expectations. With a 97 kWh battery and a consumption rate of 27.2 kWh/100 km (2.28 miles/kWh), the estimated range was 360 km (224 miles). For comparison, my previous model never exceeded 25 kWh/100 km (2.48 miles/kWh) under similar conditions.

Final thoughts
The Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo shines in its charging efficiency and comfort on long drives. Its handling is impeccable, even on more demanding routes. However, the range under cold weather conditions is slightly disappointing. That said, it remains a stellar piece of engineering.

What are your experiences with winter consumption rates and charging speeds on similar trips?

do you have some kind of detailed data ?

I guess you charged once, the app should be able to give you the consumption on the 1st part, and on the 2nd part of the trip. You went up (more than 1000m ?) and that costs a lot. you'll see the difference when found down.

But that won't explain why your consumption increased by 10% compared to the 2020 model.

I do the same trip (about 750km) twice a month. Consumption can be very different, depending on the weather (wind, rain, temp.), average speed, initial condition (batt. temp), etc.

I wouldn't come to a conclusion on a single trip

The journey included two 15-minute stops, partly due to crossing the Morvan massif with nearly 800 metres of elevation gain. Consumption was high from the start due to wet road conditions, but I can’t comment on the wind.

You’re right, the app is providing more detailed data for each segment (27,3kWh / 26kWh / 27,6kWh). The elevation gain had an impact, and I expect better consumption on the descent. I’ll gather more data on future trips to confirm. Thanks for your insights!

Are you comparing the turbo cross turismo 2025 with a turbo saloon 2020?
The difference between saloon and CT will be the biggest difference
Yes, I’m comparing the Turbo Cross Turismo 2025 with the Turbo Saloon 2020. I understand that the biggest difference would indeed come from the body style, with the Cross Turismo likely consuming more due to its higher weight and less aerodynamic design. However, I’m still surprised by the 10% increase in consumption, which seems a bit high.

Would you expect such a gap even considering the body type?

If you're still up there: do not charge the car fully before going down. The downhills will give ribs of regen breaking, which cannot happen if the battery is already full.
Thanks!
It’s always good to keep in mind the importance of leaving some capacity for regen on descents. Appreciate the reminder!

Indeed.
The CT and ST have 20% more drag than the saloon.

I'd say the range was impacted by a significant increase in vehicle rolling mass due to passing through the Beaune and Comte regions. Also conveniently avoiding Swiss customs by the look of it.;)

Not a direct comparison, but the change from 19” to 21” wheels on a Tesla Model S has close to a 10% impact on consumption, so it’s very easy to believe that the drag difference between the saloon and CT would do the same or more - especially in dense cold air.

My experience: the "Taycan" saloon loaner 19" I drove for 10 days has easily 20%-25% more range than my CT Turbo S 21".
If you want range, take a rear-wheel saloon.
I don't mind charging once more when travelling.
Same battery size? I suspect the saloon had the small battery. 19 Inch + saloon getting 25% less range than a CT on 21 is impossible

I second your review, went from a '20 turbo saloon to a 24 j1.1 turbo chalk ct. lost on average -15% range. maybe it's the chalk color... car is amazing, even without the active ride. also, Porsche must have done something. I recently noticed better dc charging curves. Thankfully I mostly drive at night and outside peak days. I would never wait for a free stall at ionity (ie 15 min charging + 10 waiting? no thanks)
