The journey
A nearly 600 km (373 miles) trip from Paris to the Alps showcased the Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo’s strengths and some areas for improvement. The Ionity charging stations along the way were busy, but charging sessions were impressively short. Even with battery pre-conditioning, it wasn’t possible to reach the full 300 kW charging speed. However, stops were extremely efficient—just 15 minutes per charge, which is 5 to 10 minutes faster than my 2020 Taycan Turbo. The charging curve stays remarkably high for a long period, which is a clear upgrade.
Driving comfort and handling
With the Active Ride Suspension, the Taycan provides a regal level of comfort, almost like gliding on the motorway. When the terrain became more challenging, the suspension ensured precise and rigorous handling, holding the line effortlessly. From a dynamic driving perspective, I couldn’t detect any major differences between the Cross Turismo and my previous Taycan saloon. Hats off to Porsche’s engineers for maintaining such exceptional performance!
Range and efficiency
This is where the experience was slightly underwhelming. While the cold weather (around 0°C/32°F), a brisk average speed of 93 km/h (58 mph), 20-inch winter tyres, and mountainous terrain certainly played a role, the range fell short of expectations. With a 97 kWh battery and a consumption rate of 27.2 kWh/100 km (2.28 miles/kWh), the estimated range was 360 km (224 miles). For comparison, my previous model never exceeded 25 kWh/100 km (2.48 miles/kWh) under similar conditions.
Final thoughts
The Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo shines in its charging efficiency and comfort on long drives. Its handling is impeccable, even on more demanding routes. However, the range under cold weather conditions is slightly disappointing. That said, it remains a stellar piece of engineering.
What are your experiences with winter consumption rates and charging speeds on similar trips?
