My car's in having the brake hose recall (incl. software update) and heater recall. Will post more on that once complete (though the dealer continues to restore my faith in main dealers across marques).

I have a MY25 CT4 as a loaner...some thoughts.
  • Looks - have always liked the way the CT looks and this is no different. This one's black so hides the new lights a little which is a positive (not sure why Porsche decided to hide a key design feature). Creases on top of the wings are interesting
  • It feels smaller. Not sure if this is the colour or my seating position or something else. It's obviously an illusion, but how I know not
  • Whilst not exactly a slow car, lord it feels glacial compared to my GTS. To be expected I guess
  • No rear wheel steering and it shows. I hadn't driven with/without in such close proximity to each other. Without is still a decent car, but with is a lot better
  • This one seems to roll more than mine. Not sure if that's a CT to ST difference, or just that the GTS is better controlled (or both). I don't have PDCC so that's not it.
  • Mine has noise insulating glass...again, had never tried two cars in close proximity with/without. I'd now spec' it again. It makes a difference (even though phone signals are non-existent with it).
  • 14-way seats do not suit my frame. At all.
  • Not a big fan of the smooth leather...it manages to not feel like leather.
  • I know those with greasy mitts aren't keen on alcantara, but it does make the interior feel more special. Especially on the headlining and pillars. The textured fabric on this one isn't as good as on my old RS4. Together I'm not sure smooth leather/textured fabric a 6-figure car make...
  • Night vision assist is interesting and works uncannily well at spotting people/animals. Only problem is, by looking at the 3in circle in the driver's display for the danger signs, you've run over them anyway. It should probably pick them out in red rather than yellow
  • Soft close doors - why?
  • Efficiency is showing as 2.8mi/kWh at the moment. Same as my GTS. I remain convinced that most of the real world range gains are the 15% bigger battery.
  • I thought the passenger screen was broken until I realised it had the privacy filter on!
  • The software remains frustrating...
    • Screenhits - WTAF? Isn't this thing Android based? Just let people download Disney+, Netflix, YouTube, Prime etc FFS.
    • I actually don't like the way the functions in the "tubes" are now selected....I prefer my car's list and click
    • They've tried with the media tube....you can now select the source from there (woohoo!). And a list of radio stations is to hand when selecting radio (woohoo x2). Selecting tracks from other sources is less successful in my playing thus far (boooooo).
    • Ambient lighting. Devoted a thread to this more important of features :)
    • The mandatory bonging when going over the speed limit is OK. Not as well done as Volvo's, but OK. Not sure I'll buy a 2024 on car until there are s/w hacks for these though.
Lovely car generally. It wouldn't be my model pick, but a lovely car.

Porsche does need to get its act together on s/w though. It's so frustratingly close to being very good.

I thought the headlights (HD Matrix) also picked out the person/animal?

The first few people it spotted, it didn't seem to (any more than the headlights themselves).

There was one instance where I thought I saw a flash towards the pedestrian, but wasn't sure it was the headlights...if it was I would have thought it'd have scared the life out of the pedestrian!

Will give it another go this week if I get chance.

(No humans or animals were harmed in this testing).

Perhaps you already knew this, but for everyone else: Night Vision Assist is active regardless of whether you display it on the dashboard. When it detects an animal or pedestrian about to cross in front of the Taycan, it takes over the display, and automatically brakes if necessary. I had NVA brake my Taycan on a highway at night when a darkly dressed pedestrian ran in front of me.

  • Soft close doors - why?
My friend with a young child really appreciated that my soft close doors didn't wake the baby. I find they make the car feel more refined, especially when closing the stiffer/lighter rear doors.

I didn't know that about NVA.

I'm still not sure the additional complexity and weight of soft close doors is worthwhile mind. I managed not to wake mine up closing doors for the last 12yrs with nary a soft closer in sight :)

The Night Vision Assist option performs predicted path analysis on the animals and pedestrians that it sees. It looks at their current direction of travel and speed.

If it predicts that they risk intersection with your vehicle (at their and its current speed) it will show them up highlighted in red, otherwise it shows yellow to just indicate it has detected them but does not predict a collision.

It is when it predicts an intersection – in the background – that it triggers the alert and shows the infra-red display even when it is not actively visible on the screen at the time.

It will flash at a pedestrian if it detects them and predicts they may cross in front of the vehicle. If it detects the same with an animal, it won't flash them – in case it startles them.

The matrix lights try – as much as the circumstances allow – to trigger the flash at waist height – i.e. below the eyes – so the pedestrian sees the flash but it doesn't blind them in the eyes. This potentially will work much better with theJ1.22matrix lights as it has vastly more LED pixels and therefore higher resolution to pull this off.

But even with the J1 – it only triggers one or two LEDs under the eyeline of the pedestrian – to increase your visibility to them. It is not a full beam flash kind of thing!

Of course this is in Europe only.

The system has no sense of footpaths that pedestrians may be walking on – and while it is supposed to not trigger in urban areas – I've certainly seen it go off in my city against a pedestrian that is on a footpath. Turning sharp corners seems to increase its chances of going off!

Nope, got nothing to do with Android – that is likely the Macan EV PCM you are thinking of. To best of my knowledge the Taycan (J1/J2) PCM is a QNX-based docker host running "apps" in isolated containers – with each app having its own (likely) linux OS variant.

Ah, probably was the Macan I was thinking of.

NVA triggered this morning when not already "open" as noted above... Yellow boxes around people. Interesting.

I had both the CT4S and ST4S as loaners last month and both as as quick as the GTS ST I have - GTS power always gets inherited by the next gen / facelift 4S models.

Soft close - because we moaned loudly about it on the forum since launch (not an option on Panamera or Taycan at the time and now it is an option) - also, the doors sometimes need closing twice as they are so light. Expected on 'luxury cars' is also a reason.

Range - precisely my thoughts and I guess a blind man would see it also, quelle surprise!

Leather - same across all Porsches and is more than acceptable IMHO - Olea is not worth the upgrade though and Alcantara is not for all.

Roll - can't say I noticed but the GTS has PTV+ as standard remember and lower. CT sits slightly higher so that will be a factor.

RAS - neither models had it and I wouldn't have known to be honest. I have it and again argue that it is marginally useful in parking and U-turns.

Was thinking the same on roll. When I get mine back will take a look at chassis heights.

Am also thinking the seats might be changing the sensation...am using my eyes too of course, but the seat isn't as supportive.

I definitely think RAS make them feel more pointy... Will see if I notice in the return fixture.

You'll be pre-occupied with your 'new' brakes to worry about anything else!

😁

Have been trying to ensure the feel of the current car's is embedded in my brain.... We'll see. Seem sharper and definitely no "fade" when coming to a stop.

Never understood how and why brand new models are loaners. Is it marketing? Depreciating is hell for the dealer this way right? Why not only base Macans?

They won't be dealer owned I suspect and besides we'd all moan if if wasn't a Porsche as a loaner.
